In 2020, Jyan Isaac, a member of the bread team at artisanal bakery Gjusta, lost his job along with so many other restaurant workers around the world. Feeling adrift, 19-year-old Jyan began baking sourdough loaves out of his family’s kitchen, selling them to neighbors. The response was extraordinary. Soon Jyan was baking 250 sourdough loaves a week out of a shuttered pizza joint in Santa Monica, hand delivering them to his Instagram devotees. An LA Times Food Section feature followed, and by the beginning of 2022, Jyan was baking 5000 loaves and bagels a week to fulfill demand. Jyan Isaac Bread was named in Food & Wine magazine’s January 2022 feature The Best Bread in Every State as one of the top 5 bread bakeries in California.

They do a fab job! The bagel is huge! You could share it with a party of two and get other bites on the menu!
We got poppy seed, scallion cream cheese tomato bagel. They had sprinkled lemon salt on top? Yummy!! The cream cheese was not too light, not too heavy. The bagel was the right amount of chewy & crunchy on the outside.
Got the Banana bread and oatmeal cookie as well. Both of them were large in size and delicious. The banana bread wasn’t crazy sweet. We saved some for dessert to have later in the day.
The capucinno was good as well.
I am glad to have picked this place.
There was plenty parking on a Friday morning.
For our first visit we chose the Gravlax Works on an Everything Bagel and a Bacon, Egg, & Cheese on a Plain Bagel. The Gravlax was fantastic. It’s basically a lox bagel but elevated. The difference between the works and plain is the works has tomato and dill. The smoked salmon was really delicate and overall it was just one of the better ones that I’ve had in quite some time. The BEC was also very good however, I am not a fan of thick cut bacon and would much prefer crispy bacon instead so that is my only criticism it.
Overall, we had a great experience and I’m already eager to come back again soon to try more items. I would recommend to anyone in the area and would say it is worth driving out of your way to go here.
Jyan Isaac has more diverse offerings beyond bagels, from bread to pastries, and their cream cheese is absolutely heavenly with its stronger flavor, reminiscent of Courage Bagels’ cream cheese. The combination of everything actually on the bagel wins the Layla Laika but there’s definitely still some room for improvement in the produce quality when compared to their competitor next door. However, there is no line here and a lot more seating while still capturing the vast majority of the bagel-eating experience!
I’ve only had bagels from here, but they always are a hit ! Everything bagel toasted with cream cheese is my go to. Perfect amount of chew with a good little crust on the outside, and a good cream cheese ratio.
Their seating in the back is great, one of my favorite outdoor patios on the west side for sure.
This bakery is a great vibe. The service is friendly, the wall of sourdoughs and begets are a delicious decoration and the music they play outside is great, ranging from Men at Work to some Italian jazz.
For $27, I got two kinds of speciality bagels (half tomato and half gravlax works) and a latte, not terrible. The latte was pretty standard but the foam was a very good consistency to where it aerated the coffee but didn’t make the initial sips pure, frothy air.
The Tomato Bagel was on pumpernickel and was good, if maybe a bit wet from the three tomatoes. Flavor wise, it was all there. It’s a very bright bagel from the crisp red onions, the earthy sprigs of basil, and juicy tomatoes which were well seasoned with pepper — enough to add a hint of spice while not being domineering. I don’t know if the bread was soft because it’s made in a Californian style or if it absorbed too much tomato juice, but it was textually placid, but the flavor was good.
An Everything Bagel with the Works is a perfect bite and this was no exception. The seasoned crust already adds texture, savoriness and umami, but the slightly burnt seeds provide a smoky depth to the sandwich. These paper thin lox were fresh but not fishy, a profile only enhanced by the brainy capers and pungent dill. Once again, the tomatoes are juicy, acidic and the red onions add that vegetal crunch. All of these flavors play delectably off of the sweet cream cheese. Also, bonus points for how massive this bagel was!
Jyan Isaac Bread is without a doubt a worthy contender in LAs growing bagel industry.
We live close by and often walk here for breakfast on the weekend, but we were feeling lazy and wanted to see how the bagels held up when ordered. It made absolutely no difference and these bagels came perfectly, just as they would at the shop!
If you go they have designated outside seating and we have almost always gotten a table.
The tomato topping is my favorite, but my boyfriend loves that they offer a salmon roe bagel. Too fancy for me!
I like that you can order half so that you can mix and match options, or avoid ordering too much. Super convenient.
Highly recommend their cinnamon brioche bread too!
Skip the line at Laylas and go here!
Bagels were extremely yum. Surprised by how good the espresso was! Really smooth and balanced.
