This is one of our favorite places in the KC area. My husband and I are big wine lovers, and Vintage 78 has by FAR the best wines by the glass selection in the area. The servers are all fantastic and have always been incredibly welcoming. They love to hear about your preferences and give recommendations based on that. Chris has never steered me wrong. Even if you are new to wine, they can make it approachable and fun! Can’t recommend this place enough.

The moment my wife and I walked in we were met with a warming welcome. Jameson was very knowledgeable and all around a lovely person that helped us navigate a very extensive wine list. Violent food poisoning after server refused to cook steak properly. Took over 1 hour to serve food, under cooked. I came in to use a free entree coupon for my birthday. Ordered the steak medium but server said he “could only do medium rare.” It was very raw. At that point I was starving so I ate it. Now I’m up at 1am with food poisoning. Ruined my night and next day. I wish I hadn’t gone. Now I wouldn’t go back again even if it were free. Also even just for wine. Server was selling hard. I understand they have high quality products and they price accordingly but my issue was for one, the server was pushy and made it seem he was bringing a champagne taster for free for my birthday as a gift when he was actually pushing me to purchase something I wouldn’t have ordered normally. I would not feel comfortable coming back.

Jameson was fantastic! We gave him broad parameters of what we like as far as wine and food and let him take it from there.
It was such a fun experience and I could not recommend it more. Whether you are a certified sommelier looking for something new or don’t know anything about wine yet this bar will meet you where you are at and guide you through the experience.
I also recently learned they do classes for the community and can’t wait to join.

Tried to plan a get together with friends for my birthday and another friend’s birthday. We try to get together monthly and try out trendy wine spots. Online could make reservation for 6. I called and asked if we could make the reservation for 11 and if that was too big we could sit at two tables. I’ve never spoken to a ruder woman in my life. She told me we only serve tables of 6. Which already seemed weird but we could do the two tables of 6. She told me If my party was larger than 6 I’d have to reserve the whole restaurant..I asked about just doing two tables she immediately snapped no then said “I’ll cancel your reservation”. Terrible customer service. We are a group of 30/40 year old women who have all worked in the hospitality industry and tip well and planned to spend a good amount of money. It’s unfortunate they have staff manning their phones who are so incredibly rude. Lost my business and I’ll not be suggesting this place either.

We had the most wonderful experience. The food was amazing. We let Jameson pick the different wines that we tried and after asking each person what they really liked his choices for everyone were spot on! He was so passionate about the wines and his recommendations were well thought out and superb. We cannot say enough great things about this place. We will definitely be putting this into our regular rotation!! Thank you for a great meal.

Literally stumbled upon this cozy and friendly place after going shopping post black Friday weekend, and it was fantastic! I like white wine and my boyfriend likes Red, and we said we wanted a snack. They recommended the tomato soup and grilled cheese- it was literally the best tomato soup and grilled cheese I’ve ever had, and the wine was an excellent recommendation too! Very cool, kind, & knowledgeable people. We will definitely be back!

We were very excited to visit Vintage ’78! We made reservations for 7 people and were told we may have to sit at ‘separate tables’. When we arrived, the reserved tables were separated by another couple having dinner. They gave no consideration to our reservation when they seated the couple at the next table. We provided some options for us to sit together and were told ‘No’ by the manager. Disappointed, we complied and sat at our separate tables, sitting apart from my husband. We believe they could have anticipated our party size and accommodated us sitting together. The food was fine and when I ordered a second glass of wine, I was told ‘No’ by our server…our time at the table was ‘up’ and we had to vacate the table. Shocked…we left the restaurant disappointed with our experience. We wish you well as we take our wallet elsewhere.

Our Som, Chris, was excellent. He took the time to listen and understand what we liked and arranged a tasting flight that was both unique and exploratory in providing new wines to sample. Chris provided excellent background and detail about each wine and allowed us to provide feedback to help determine what other selections we might like.
Overall, a very enjoyable experience. I almost felt like I was back in Napa.
