Why go eat bland Mo Bettah’s across the street when you can eat Island Grinds?
The pupu chicken was far from “pupu”. It was fresh and rich in sweet and savory flavor! Their pork, while not the best I’ve had, was tender and quite delicious! The macaroni was actually seasoned, and the rice? Well, it’s just rice, but it had a soft, sticky rice like texture.
Prices for combination plates are pretty reasonable for the massive portions you get. For a 2 meat combination plate, it will run you <$20 with a tip included.

Always a must stop for us, food is always hot, fresh and delicious!! Staff is great and friendly, with an awesome atmosphere. Definitely recommend this food spot and their 3 meat mix plate .

Nice people and good musubi which was well worth finding. The place is a bit empty so getting to go can be a bit awkward with others sitting in the eatery. Still not an issue. I highly suggest you come try this place out. The staff can be hit or miss, one girl is super sweet where some others definitely do not want to be there. I’ll keep coming back, i keep meaning to come try some of the bigger dishes. Would love to see more types of musubi too.

travel for work and visit SLC once a month, and I always make sure to stop by this spot. This time, I ordered the seameat mix, garlic shrimp, and lemon pepper chicken, which came with mac salad and rice. The garlic sauce was delicious, and the shrimp was perfectly cooked—it was the first thing I finished! The chicken was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Honestly, the price is a steal for the quality of food. I highly recommend checking this place out.

It took over 35 minutes from the time we ordered to the time we got our food. After about 20ish minutes, I was called to the counter and informed that they were out of one of the items we had ordered. They proceeded to give everyone who ordered after us their food long before we got ours. Once we finally got our meals, the food was good, fresh and hot. Unfortunately, we had to rush our meal so we could get back before our lunch hour was over. The lady at the front counter did apologize, but they could do better about communication with their customers.

This is definitely a mom-and-pop shop – great tasting food that’s finger-lickin’ good! What a great find and thanks to a work colleague who took me here while we were in the area.
Ordered the infamous PuPu Chicken with Kalbi short ribs – in my opinion, is the best 2 meat plate combo they have! Both were so tasty. The PuPu chicken is probably the best (Hawaiian) deep-fried chicken I’ve ever had, while the kalbi ribs were soft, packed with flavor that makes you want more after every bite!
This definitely would’ve been a five-star review but the tables weren’t wiped down very well and the place wasn’t super tidy. However, we came for the fantastic food, but the overall experience definitely could’ve been better.

If you have not been to Island Grinds..you need to get there! ☺️ Food is DELICIOUS! Portions are made to satisfy, shop is very clean and customer service, welcoming. Wait time was not long at all. I had the 2 meat mix plate with rice & max salad..kids had Katsu chicken & they gave it thumbs up. The only thing that was missing was a cold cup of Otai I was just way too excited to get home to dig in that it slipped my mind ♀️..Next time for sure! Thank you Island Grinds West Valley for the wonderful hospitality! We’ll be back soon.
