Many people will tell you that The Front Page is great.
And they’re right.

The reviews say it.
The almost five stars say it.
The sandwiches definitely say it.

Best in Austin. Argue with your mother if you think otherwise.

But that’s not the full story.

The part people don’t always mention is how quietly this place slips into your life. How it doesn’t announce itself as important. It just becomes necessary.

It sits downstairs from where I work, which means it finds me in the middle of normal days. Lunch breaks. Between meetings. When my brain is fried and my phone has buzzed one too many times. It’s not just a bar to me. It’s lunch. It’s the pause between thoughts. It’s the reset button you don’t realize you’re pressing until you feel lighter.

It’s where ideas get unstuck somewhere between the first bite of house baked bread and the last sip of an iced drink sweating onto the bar.

You come in thinking you’ll stay twenty minutes.

You don’t.

The room has a way of pulling you out of your head and into the moment. The space is small in the best way. Close enough that you feel the energy, never crowded enough to feel rushed. Wood everywhere. Warm light that softens the edges of the day. Conversations overlapping but never competing, like background noise designed specifically to make you feel less alone.

It feels lived in. Like it’s been there before you and will be there after you, doing exactly what it does best. Waiting for you to show up and need it.

Some days it’s just a sandwich and silence. Sitting on a stool, staring off, letting the world slow down on its own. Other days it’s laughter that gets louder than you meant it to. I’ve met new faces here that felt familiar almost immediately. I’ve toasted wins that probably didn’t need celebrating but got celebrated anyway. I’ve shared final rounds with friends standing on the edge of something new, the kind of moments where you don’t say much because the place already understands what’s happening.

And every time, without fail, there’s that moment behind the bar.

Andrew looks up.
A pause.
Already knowing the answer before he asks.

“You want another one?”

It’s not just a question.
It’s permission.
To stay.
To linger.
To let the day end the right way.

Yes sir. Yes, I do.

A bit out of my stomping grounds, but my kind of place. Unpretentious, good appetizers, good beer list and cocktails. The bartenders and kitchen staff were friendly and good at what they do. They handled a large group gathering for a retirement party with no problem. Wish this was closer to home. I’d be a regular.

I’m really picky when it comes to sandwiches. I decided to try this place because the pictures looked good and was available on lunch drop. I will say, this was pricey in my opinion but holy moly this was so good! Will definitely be back!

I think the best advice I can give is to order your sandwich on sourdough. It’s toasted and feels like the best way to order. I get the classic itallian and it’s refreshing and delicious. The beer cheese is great but I’d order it with the pretzels. The chips are not fresh. The Cesar isn’t my favorite. But as far as sandwiches go this is a strong contender and clearly the best itallian in the neighborhood. Solid.

I had no expectations going in. I didn’t know it was a bar so once I realized that I thought maybe the food wouldn’t be the reason people were going. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing. Made from scratch dressings. Fresh and top shelf ingredients lol. My husband is hard to please, but they even made him happy. He had the Meat garden salad and he said he would definitely go back for it again. I had the turkey Cobb and it was sooo good. The portions were generous. The staff was great, very friendly and accommodating to my husband’s several requests. Hahaha. It’s in a cute little shopping center with lots of other places to explore.

Don’t sleep on these sandwiches. The sourdough turkey club with spicy ranch was excellent. Pretzel bites with cheese were tasty. Looking forward to trying another next time I’m in the area.

Food was good, but felt it could be a lot better. Please do not let that stop you from trying it. I’m just a pick eater. Flavors didn’t pop like I felt they should, but I can see why people enjoy it. Very laid back atmosphere that day. Dogs sat with us on patio. That’s a plus.

I really wanted to like it here, I did, but something is off the two times I tried. First time, I asked for a gluten free sandwich and was not given one, despite me asking twice and I got very sick. Second time, the wine was corked and musty and the sandwich overall felt like I could have easily made better at home. I’m done trying with this place.

Went to The Front Page in Austin with zero expectations—didn’t even know it was a bar! Food blew us away: fresh, scratch-made dressings, top-notch ingredients. Hubby devoured the Meat Garden salad and said he’d be back; I loved the huge, delicious Turkey Cobb. Portions are generous, staff super friendly—our pretty and sweet bartender went above and beyond for his picky requests . Clean restroom, nice bouncer at the door. Cute spot in a fun shopping center. Lunch $10-20. 5 stars!
