Reviews
I was very pleased with their selection of groceries; they had many WHOLE-grain spices, which is pretty rare, unless you are going to Whole Foods or some ritzy establishment like that. They had so many herbs and ingredients, it was really lovely to see a small business provide a resource for an underserved community in Winston-Salem.
I plan to try the Garlic Naan later, I was to hungry to warm it up with my Butter Chicken.
Now, onto the food.
Unfortunately, I thought it was a little bland. And a bit pricy for what I got. I just got butter chicken and jasmine rice, and it was $16. I think for that price, the portion size might be a little bigger. The dish had spice, it was not devoid of spices, but it was just fairly bland, compared to my few experiences with Indian food before. With that being said, I will try it again. Perhaps it was an off day, or maybe that’s not their signature dish. If I had to pinpoint a problem, maybe there was too much cream in it? I think that is the reason for the “bland” and most certainly not a lack of effort or seasonings. I tasted a nice umami flavor, but it was very faint in the sauce.
I will give them another shot, and I will report back, everyone has a bad day occasionally.
The people are kind and friendly too.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience deserves one. This restaurant is run solely by a husband and wife, with no additional staff, and unfortunately, it shows in both service and quality.
I ordered butter chicken which came with rice, naan, samosa and mango lassi.
The food was not freshly prepared—especially the rice, which was smelly and clearly spoiled. Chicken felt like it was prepared in the past not sure how many days old.
To make matters worse, I saw a cockroach crawling near my table. I pointed it out to the owner (the husband), and instead of addressing the issue calmly, he rudely denied there was a problem and argued with me. When I showed him the cockroach had moved to another table, he reluctantly brought a brush and removed it.
As if that wasn’t enough, the wife also got defensive when I mentioned the rice was bad, insisting it was fine even though it obviously wasn’t.
This place was unsanitary, the food was subpar, and the attitude of the owners was shockingly unprofessional. I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Ever.
All around amazing restaurant and delectable to all. I have been coming to Zermatt every year and this is not a restaurant that I will ever pass up. I will go 2-3 times per trip on average. Really amazing work, highly recommend, not at all exaggerating! I also highly, highly, recommend sharing dishes as it helps immerse you and your friends/family in the “Indian” culture. Very delicious and I can’t stress enough as to how authentic it was 🙂
Food is extremely expensive, small portions, and easily the most flavorless Indian I’ve had in WS. Ordered the “medium” amount of spice and it was entirely mild. I paid $41 for takeout Tikka Masala and Lamb Rogan Josh. Very liquidy and very little actual meat.
Setvice:
No problems. Nice man at the counter
Atmosphere:
The lights are literally off in the restaurant even though it’s open. Shop is lit by a constantly flickering light. There are boxes and equipment everywhere. The price tickets are all hand written and placed with tape, 99% of items you will not know what the price is until you take it to the register
