Benvenuti a Cafe Lumina!
We are an Italian cafe & restaurant in the heart of the Ashland Plaza where food, art, music and the bella vita come together. Come linger over authentic homemade Italian cooking from le recette della nonna. Local + organic. No seed oils. We offer breakfast, lunch + dinner featuring rotating frittatas in the morning, then pasta, risotto, meat and vegetable dishes, the menu for our hot bar changing daily. Open daily 8-3pm with dinner until 8pm Thu-Sun.

The most darling new cafe in Ashland! We’ve spent a lot of time in Europe and in Italy specifically and this gives just that feel in many ways. The cappuccino tastes very authentic and the cornetti are amazing. The staff are all so sweet and welcoming and the location couldn’t be better. Organic coffee, regenerative milk and authentic ingredients – so glad this place has opened in Ashland!

The pastries were incredible, as good as any I have had in Italy. We loved the fresh, flavorful, coffee and the frittatas. It’s always a great sign when you see the owners out on the floor checking in with customers! Loved the decor and the warm community feeling! This place is my jam!

Wow! There is nothing like this in Ashland. Casual and delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner. Wonderful pastries. Great drinks. What really blew us away is how there’s no seed oils, they make their pastries with beef tallow, and they have a Berkey for water! This place is much more of a cafe than a restaurant, exactly what the plaza needs. Great vegetarian options. All organic. Comfortable seating. Specialty Lattes. Wonderful Gelato! We will be back time and time again

Joy will exude you as you’re transported to Italy upon entering the Cafe Lumina! The choices of sweet and delightful treats (none of which use seed oils – thank goodness!) are fantastic and will hit all your tastebuds. We ordered the doughnut-like treat (fried in coconut oil and beef tallow)…amazing! And a cornetti (a croissant-like, but more cakey pastry). Of course this was complimented by a perfectly concocted cappuccino. We had to try the meatballs too and those were excellent, surrounded in the perfect richness of a tomato sauce! On top of all that the staff and owners were so kind and hospitable. We felt welcomed as if into a family’s afternoon gathering in the countryside. We hope this place stays a long time in Ashland and maintains the quality of good eats and connection we all need much more of!

Our family is so thrilled Café Lumina has opened in Ashland. We visited Italy, specifically the areas around Naples in May and fell in love with all things Italian. The environment here is warm, bright and welcoming. The coffee and Italian pastries are delicious. They use Alexandre Farms organic milk. I have tried the frittata and arugula salad and both were fresh and perfect for brunch. It’s a wonderful place to gather with friends or family. They are so welcoming to kids. Ashland is really lucky to have this new restaurant.

As an avid global traveler, especially as one who visits Italy often, the atmosphere and general decor is sorely missing romance, nurturance, and color.
A simple shift in creating better layout design of the cafeteria-like table placement and arrangement that absolutely discourages intimacy, would be a supportive shift.
Another strong and desirable easy upgrade in enhancing the beauty and adding classic Italian touch, is cloth tablecoverings and plants or flowers on tables and throughout your new venue.
Your restaurant was literally recommended to me by my foodie daughter who truly enjoyed her meal, but was extremely disappointed by the ambience.
Ps. Please always remove signs of food choice that no longer are available, instead of affirming the “not enough and lack of plenty” vibe.
A true Italian Grandmothers kitchen is always overflowing with abundance!
I truly pray for your success! We need an amazing breakfast and lunch Italian restaurant in Ashland!
I’m excited to visit again and see if you receive my suggestions. I was raised working at an Italian restaurant in New York. I seriously know what I’m talking about.

Love this new little Italian Café in the Plaza. It is the perfect quiet place to work or meet a friend with really wonderful coffee. Lovely staff. My Cappuccino and Olive Oil Cake were the perfect pick me up in the middle of my work day.

Stopped in to check out the new business and try the food. Everything had a sense of being prepared with care, from sourcing ingredients all the way through presentation. I will return here for sure, for food and coffee both!
Cappuccino: glorious 🙂 In a town full of extraordinary coffee, these folks fit right in.
Grilled polenta: yes, you want the olive oil drizzle. I am FULL, and still kinda want more of this…
Arugula side salad: simple, fresh, and perfect. It would be a mistake not to order this!
Sausage frittata: large portion, I ate every bite. Quite good, but the only item I would doctor in any way w hot sauce or whatever. Still tastes fresh and created with love, hard to find a better frittata. Its only fault: being outshined by three other perfect items.

We had a lovely dinner this evening. The chef, inspired by her grandmother, brings out traditional, but uncommon, creative and tasty dishes that complement each other well. The menu, which changes often, mirrors the exploratory stage of this new restaurant’s evolution. The vibe is friendly and warm. We look forward to returning soon!

Our group wanted so much to like this new addition to the Ashland food scene. Alas, it fell short in every way. Perhaps it’s still in a soft opening phase. We went there for breakfast. It was about a third to half full. The menu included three frittatas and one polenta dish, dished out from metal chafing pans onto a bare plate–like a cafeteria. I know Italian cooking well–both in Italy and larger urban areas–and this was passable at best. (Btw, in Italy you’d never find a cafe serving frittata or polenta for breakfast! Coffee and pastries are the drill.) There was no pastry available yesterday(I gather you are looking for a new night baker). My cappuccino came with none of the traditional foam on top–and not on a par with what’s available at places like Mix, Noble, Case.
With no carpeting or noise abatement decorating, it was loud. The formica (?) square tables and stiff wooden chairs gave a cheap feel. The layout needs work.
I’ve never written a restaurant review before in my life, but I felt compelled to in this case. I hope that Lumina’s opening is premature and rough, with better things to follow.
