Drove down from Nutley for my favorite post-run ritual: a solid 5-miler on the boards followed by the best pizza around. Even with an hour’s drive, this spot is always worth the trip!

I placed an order with Anthony for the Peter’s Special Square Pizza. It’s a perfectly thin square pie topped with a bright peeled tomato sauce and a fresh mozzarella blend, all finished with a sharp hit of Pecorino Romano. The sauce absolutely pops!

Anthony provides awesome service, and this has officially become my go-to reward after a long run. Keep it up, Anthony—truly delicious

We went on a pizza tour from the Philly area. We hit up Pete and Elda’s, Vic’s, Brooklyn Square Bradley Beach (the girlfriend and I have been to the Jackson location), Federici’s and the lastly decided to hit up Nancy’s Town House in Rahway (a bit out of the way, but it’s one of our favorites when up that way….and by up that way, we say like above exit 10 on the Parkway).
.
So out of all the places we listed, one place was not like the other….and that was Brooklyn Square.
.
The rest was all the (almost) cracker thin crust pies, Brooklyn Square is different. It’s a lighter, airy, thick crust masterpiece.
.
It’s take out only. We sent our friend in to get a few slices to bring back for us all to try (this was now stop 3 on our trek), and he comes out and says “It’ll be 15 minutes. I got whatever Portnoy got and then I saw the Grandma Pie and had to get one.
.
So we waited in the truck while they baked our pies. The manager came out once our friend came out with them and was like “I gotta take your picture, we’re going to put it on our Tik Tok. You guys came from Philly all the way here to try our pizza, that’s awesome!”.
.
It was a breath of fresh air because at our first stop, the hostesses were absolutely miserable and nasty and really put a sour taste on the whole experience there. Had a better time eating this pizza in a truck, then sitting in their establishment eating there. Not saying which one it was, but it don’t matter…
.
The one Portnoy got was amazing! The grandma pie was cheesy and crispy….but that thick, pillowy soft one was so good….
.
Wasn’t going to knock them in stars for Atmosphere and Service. The pizzas came out in 15 minutes and were delicious.
.
These are from outsiders just coming in and tasting the pizza. We’ve heard they took over the joint from a rather beloved prior pizza place. Losing a local joint that you loved sucks….and this place might be different, might be a bit more $$$, but y’all lucky they moved in.
.
Stop expanding in North Jersey, come on down our way!

Not the same pizza as the Jackson location

I just ordered one of the iconic square pies from the Bradley Beach location of Brooklyn Square Pizza – formerly known as Rocco’s. Given the reputation of their original Jackson location—especially for their iconic Sicilian square pie—we were excited to see the brand extend here and decided to give it a try.

For $32, I expected the signature thick, square Sicilian-style pizza that Brooklyn Square is known for. Instead, what we received was a thin, overcooked pizza. The crust was heavily burnt on the bottom, the corners were dry and lacked toppings. It didn’t resemble the hearty, well-balanced pies that have made their original location so popular.

It also too over an hour to arrive. While we understand every restaurant can have an off night, this felt like a significant difference from the unique pizza associated with the Brooklyn Square name. I hope the Bradley Beach “Brooklyn Square Pizza” location can better align with the standards customers have come to expect.

Stopped in on a snowy evening to pick up a quick dinner to take home. Anthony was great, and the menu is large. The food was delicious… The meatballs are like little meatloaf’s they are so big! The sausage was delicious and their sauce is outstanding. I was just passing through Bradley Beach on my way home in the snow and I’m so happy I stumbled upon them. I will certainly be back!

We’ve done pickup 1x and delivery 2x, and have had great experiences all 3 occasions. The pizza is amazing and we recently got their super Caesar salad which blew our minds. The chicken was perfect and they are really generous with their mozzarella. I’m excited to try other menu items with the chicken cutlets after how great they were on the salad. Highly recommend their square pie!

This place, like their other locations, makes great, real pizza. The round is great, and the square is the best outside of 86th street in brooklyn.

PS. The people leaving this place bad reviews should keep it to themselves because it is only a reflection of their own opinions about this TYPE of pizza, not facts about the actual quality of Brooklyn Square’s pizza itself.

Been my pizza place for 3 years. Always get the Italian with arugula Parmesan and prosciutto. Super flavorful and healthy as far as pizza goes. They’re always consistent w the quantity of toppings. Went yesterday and the owner was throwing a birthday party for one of his staff. Coming from a small business background, this appreciation for your works is rare in the modern day and something to be praised.

We were big fans of the prior owners (Roccos) so we avoid the new place for a while out of unjustified spite? ;_) But just stop in for couple of slices for lunch and I have to admit the pizza was exceptional. Ill be back!
