I dined here yesterday and wanted to share some honest feedback. The food here is consistently great, always arrives in a timely manner, which keeps me coming back. The kitchen does an excellent job with quality and efficiency.
Unfortunately, the service can be inconsistent depending on the server. There is one specific server who does not always greet guests, rarely smiles, and often seems unwelcoming. Because of this, I will admit that I typically tip this server around 15% due to the level of customer service provided.
During my visit yesterday, I witnessed a concerning situation. A group of women (who are of color) attempted to receive service from this same server and were turned away. It appeared that the server refused to serve them because she felt they had not tipped her adequately during a previous visit. As a customer, this was upsetting to witness, especially during Black History Month, and it did not reflect the welcoming environment that restaurants should provide.
I truly enjoy the food, but I hope management reviews service consistency and ensures that all guests are treated respectfully and fairly.
Due to this incident, I likely will not continue to support this restaurant.

My husband and I have had our favorite sushi spots in Charlotte that are tried and true that we typically stick with. However, we recently tried Shoku and it has now been added to our list of favorites! The sushi is fresh tasting and full of flavor. The hibachi style meals are absolutely incredible – and the sweet carrot that comes on the side is amazing! If you love a good crab rangoon with lots of filling you will absolutely find that these will satisfy your craving. The customer service is wonderful and the prices are great. Online ordering is super simple to use as well. So far we’ve dined in once and gotten to-go once as well as we will definitely return!

The food is good however the customer service SUCKS. If staff is wanting to be tipped they should try smiling at your customers and having a friendly demeanor instead of walking around like you hate your job. There is one server in particular that NEVER comes around to ask if the food is okay, do you need a straw, extra napkins, NOTHING so if you tips are wanted I would recommend you start acting like you want to be at work.

0/10 customer service. I’ve never been to a restaurant that expects a tip for crappy service. I witnessed 4 ladies getting denied service because they wanted a tip. To make matters worst they were all women of color. I’ve ate at this restaurant and the server (not sure of her name because she never introduces herself) always seems like she has an attitude. It’s almost like she hates her job. How can you expect a tip when you do a half ass job. My suggestion would be to hire someone with a better attitude and I guarantee you that person will be tipped if better service is provided.

On February 5, 2026, I attempted to dine here with my girlfriends but were told service would be refused unless we tipped. Tipping is optional and should reflect the quality of service provided not be used as leverage. This experience felt unprofessional and left a bad impression. On top of that management didn’t even come over to talk to us to address this she sent the server. Every time we come it’s never welcoming it’s always dry and looked down upon as if we don’t belong. This is not how paying customers should be treated nor is this ever acceptable for me or anybody else who comes in to dine.

Tried their lunch special this past monday. 3 rolls for $16. The fish to rice ratio was good, all 3 rolls were fresh and tasty.
Monday lunch was quiet so service was very quick, and I felt comfortable as I worked on my laptop.
Atmosphere is decent, I would feel comfortable coming back with friends or on a date. Not overpriced or stuffy.

I’m a regular at this Japanese place in Indian trail usually for dinner, usually with my wife and kid.
The staff is overall nice although service could improve slightly (offering waters, bring shop sticks with sushi,…). Everyone is friendly.
The food is overall great. Their take of the hibachi is delicious. The carrots are a nice touch.
From a sushi/rolls standpoint, it would be nice to see some more rolls without crab and more focused on tuna and salmon maybe avocado. A salmon roe sushi or such would be nice.

Shoku Sushi & Bar delivers fresh, flavorful sushi with delicious sushi rolls and perfectly crisp egg rolls. Their steak hibachi is well-seasoned and satisfying. Generals chicken is also really good. Friendly service and a relaxed vibe round out a really good meal.

I was very disappointed with the spicy tuna roll in my lunch bento box, it was warm… and the edamame had lots of salt on it which I’ve never seen anywhere else in the world before. I had to remove all the salt before eating them. Kids had yakisoba stir fried noodle, it was very salty, we didn’t like it. Lastly, the service wasn’t friendly. Don’t understand how this restaurant has 4.4/5 on Google review.
