It’s different to say the least.
If you come with an open mind it’s great. The bar tenders didn’t know basic drinks but their service was kind that you just roll with it.
Shirley was our waitress and we adored her. She was as sweet as they come and had such a good heart. You can tell she loves what she does and wants to spread the joy to her customers.
The food for a backroads country place was very very good. Everything was fresh and flavors were good.
It’s quirky that’s for sure but it has charm and fresh food.
Hours are odd so hopefully the sign helps when you plan to go. And good luck on which door you choose to go in. They all lead to somewhere good.

I have had a house in the area for about 4 years now and this is the first time that I have ever eaten at Kenon House. I went this past Saturday and was not disappointed! The food was amazing and had plenty of flavor! I had the catfish and it was good! They still don’t have their liquor license yet so the bar was not open. I can definitely say that I will be back!

The renovations were nice. There is no doubt about that. The evening that I went there might have been maybe a dozen cars if that in the parking lot, so it wasn’t that busy, I thought.
I sat down and ordered my food at 6:44pm, they were out of 2 of the main dishes so I ordered fried chicken wish says on the menu a “20 minute wait”, which is fine, no big deal.
I’ll have to admit it has been a long time since I have been to the Kennon House. I guess I was expecting some of the original home cooked country food that they once used to have when I was growing up and going there with my grand parents. The server did well with getting my order and keeping my drink topped off. But they could have offered a basket of bread like they brought to the other tables I saw. The dining room wasn’t full, but most of them had gotten their food shortly after I ordered mine and had left not too long afterward.
So, I had ordered the fried chicken, dark meat, with black eye peas and green beans. Again, I ordered around 6:44pm and did not get my meal until an hour later (7:44pm). What was supposed to be black eye peas? Well, I guess that is what they were, but I added salt to them and still couldn’t eat them. There was no flavor to them, and a representation was not that great. Green beans were what I call “fancy green beans and not country green beans.” They were ok but not what I had expected. Then, the two pieces of chicken. It was your standard fried chicken, nothing special about it.
The prices were pretty good, so the meal wasn’t expensive. The salad bar is decent as well. The atmosphere is great. I just think the food, especially what I got, could have been better taste, and representation could have been better. The time…it should have not taken that long to cook fried chicken. I have cooked enough of it for events, and I should not have taken that long.

Not sure what to do for dinner tonight? Go check out The Kennon House! Been there done that? We had been a few years ago but its totally renovated- open, clean & bright. We enjoyed our dinner, and had great service. TVs were visible for anyone wanting to enjoy sports but not in every corner screaming in your face. If you’ve been thinking about it… give them another chance and I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we did. My favorite is the Peachy Glazed Salmon; my husband loves the Prime Rib and he never leaves without a piece of coconut cake to-go

We were on vacation at Lake Gaston and this restaurant was highly recommended by the locals. It was very busy, but we were seated right away. Kerry, one of the owners, was our waiter and was very gracious and friendly. He made sure that we had everything we needed. The food was outstanding, and we will definitely visit again when we are in the area.

The Kennon House & Sports Bar opened this evening! My husband and I decided to go check it out. It was absolutely wonderful! The Ahi Tuna, Brisket cheesesteak, Cajun fried Cod fish, all so perfectly made and tasty! Definitely going back!

I recently visited Kennon House Restaurant & Sports Bar and asked for a vegetable platter, even though it wasn’t on the menu. I was blown away by the response! Chef Erskine put together an incredible assortment of fresh and perfectly prepared veggies and fruits.
The platter included crispy fried okra, beautifully grilled zucchini, asparagus and sliced tomatoes, sautéed cabbage that was crispy and seasoned just right. To top it off, there were sweet strawberries and juicy red grapes that added a refreshing touch to the dish. Every item on the plate was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented.
It’s rare to find a restaurant that goes above and beyond to accommodate special requests with such care and creativity. If your not eating here regularly your missing out the staff makes you feel at home and very welcomed the chef is absolutely incredible he knows how to make soul food you wont leave disappointed ive had multiple ribeyes and the man just hands down knows what hes doing everything on the menu is incredible i dont eat fish usually but i grabbed some fried off the buffet and my mind has been changed for me TOP NOTCH!!

From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and hospitality from the owner. The beautiful historic property has a rustic charm that immediately drew us in. Shirley was so sweet and gave us a full rundown of the specials, making it tough to choose…everything sounded amazing!
In the end, the Chicken and Waffles won, and it did not disappoint. I honestly can’t decide which part was better: the waffle stuffed with cream cheese, the perfectly crispy fried chicken, or the homemade syrup paired with pickled watermelon rind; a true Southern delicacy. The drinks were delicious as well.
This was such an unexpected treat during our unplanned drive-through. Thank you for a wonderful evening experience!

The food was slightly below average. Everything was very salty. We waited 1.5 hours for our food to come. Almost left without eating. While we were waiting, 2 other customers complained about how long it took for their food to come. We saw other tables got some breads/ rolls but we didn’t get one. Not coming back.
