Stopped by this cute spot and got an iced coffee for $4, cheap by SF standards near downtown. Looking up and seeing the nice artwork and murals, as well as the old school chandelier shows some character in this establishment. Love these old school places that exist less and less these day
Upon arriving for breakfast after my husband’s work shift, we were immediately approached by the owner while sitting at an outdoor table. Before we could even offer a greeting, we were told to leave because the tables were reserved for paying guests. Despite my husband politely explaining that we intended to order, he was abruptly cut off and ordered to leave the premises.
Determined to proceed with our visit, I entered the cafe with cash in hand. The owner shouted over other customers that the establishment was credit-only. When I presented my credit card, the owner then stated he would not serve the men outside, claiming his right to refuse service. A customer behind me remarked that my husband and his colleague appeared “homeless” due to their work clothes, a sentiment the owner appeared to agree with and use as a basis for refusal. Even after I clarified that I was purchasing breakfast and coffee for all three of us, the owner refused to serve us entirely.
This experience was deeply hurtful and embarrassing. To be judged and denied service based on work attire is unacceptable and contradicts the values of equality and inclusion that define the San Francisco community. We were eager to support your business, but the hostile and judgmental behavior we encountered ensures we will not be returning.
I hope you take this feedback seriously and reflect on how your staff and ownership represent your establishment to the public. Shame on you La cuisine! Shame on you!!
To get to the restroom, you’ll have to go through a residential building, into a loading dock, and you’ll be holding a key attached to some tongs. It’s an interesting journey.
