When I want a quick, filling, balanced and relatively healthy bite (except for the saltiness, but that’s already expected),
I virtually always get the vegetarian burrito through drive-thru at Don Tortaco.

Fresh ingredients and freshly made, and willing to accommodate requests (no cheese, light on rice and sour cream). Also staff has always been very friendly, if that matters to you. It doesn’t for me; I actually empathize for staff.

I’ve noticed that the price has jumped quite a bit over the past couple of years, which I don’t believe is worthy of dinging Don Tortaco. Perhaps simply a sign of the times. I used to drive away paying around $7.50 for it, but it’s weighed in over $10 during the past couple of times over the same number of weeks.

I used to go to this location before. But it has gotten worse and worse over time. The food quality has dropped from pretty good to an absolute ZERO. The carnie asada now has no flavor. It is just flank steak with no flavor cut up and severed. And do not ask for a side of guacamole. They no longer even know what an avocado is. I just got a side of some green sauce that was the worst. The red chili, again zero flavor. So bottom line, I used to go there a few years ago and not bad. The serving size has cut in half on the meat has been replaced by just more beans and rice. (Great way to cut cost but make it look the same.

Maybe you just think I have no idea about Mexican food. You could not be more wrong. I spent many years growing up in Mexico and on the NM / Mexican border.

I will never GO BACK.

Small fast food style Mexican restaurant with drive through. We went inside and our cashier was friendly. The dining area was clean. Our order came quickly.

Of all the more popular Mexican-themed restaurants, I favor Don Tortaco because their prices are great, their portions are generous and the most important of all when it comes to selling food is taste! Their dishes are tasty and filling so coming back is never a problem for me, especially on “Taco Tuesdays” where chicken tacos are $1.00!

Highly recommended!

For quick food before they close the food was decent. Carnitas had flavor, although I hope they don’t reheat it on a flat grill always, it burns the ends and is not good. Corn tortillas were a little oddly thick, don’t plan on reheating them for leftovers or if you don’t eat them while warm, they turn to chewy bricks, I’d find another maker for those. Mexican rice was decent, beans decent, Pico was acceptable with cilantro instead of other places using jalapeños. Then side bar was good. Finally green hot sauce and tasted ok, wasn’t great or like homemade but decent. The jalapeño pickled thin carrot slices was the first time I’ve tried them, although some family at home likes them. With random jalapeño slices from a can you never know how much your going to get with spice and how long they have been sitting. Overall, without making everything myself or family making everything from scratch, this was definitely refreshing of closeness to homemade. It kinda makes me feel like I need to help cleanup before leaving after getting to go food. Excellent service and staff with a clean place. Thank you!

Look, I get it. It’s hard to staff, especially late at night. But this is supposed to be a 24 hr joint. Don’t advertise if you’re going to close at 11 every night. You know how you maintain late hours? Pay people fairly. I love Don Tortaco, but either be honest about hours or figure something else out. This is ridiculous.

Once you move out of the Southwest and don’t have a counter-service Mexican joint on every corner, you sure do come to miss it.

Especially the breakfast tortas.
