This cozy Mexican restaurant was a real delight. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and seated right away. Our drinks arrived quickly, and the food followed not long after. My wife ordered the chicken nachos and loved every bite. I made a last‑minute choice to try the Arroz con Mariscos — shrimp and scallops served over a bed of rice with warm tortillas — and it turned out to be phenomenal. We noticed several people getting to-go orders, so this establishment must be popular with the locals. We’ll definitely be returning the next time we’re in Dubuque!

We’re from Wisconsin and stumbled upon this place while in town for the night. We decided to give it a try because of the great reviews – so glad we did. Best Mexican food we’ve ever had. A fun & unique place. Waitstaff was all super friendly, especially our waiter Carlos. Food was So good!

TL;DR: Lalos 2 = top-notch Mexican eats. Authentic, hot food, speedy service—even when it’s packed.
Lalos 2 is hands-down my go-to Mexican spot. The food? Always fresh, super flavorful, and made to order. The enchiladas supremes or a burrito are my go-tos. Lunch hour gets busy, but don’t stress—the staff is on it and you’ll get your food fast. Prices are reasonable for the portion sizes.
Tip- they’ll happily throw eggs in your burrito if you want breakfast vibes any time of day.
Parking is street only and can get tight at lunch, but it’s worth it for legit, friendly, and affordable eats. Highly recommend for anyone looking for their new fave local Mexican joint.

Wonderful place! Great service, food was excellent, and came out very quickly. Refried beans are the best I’ve ever tasted (which I never thought I would say!) Will definitely be back!

We got the Lalo Molcajete bowl and it was delicious. It has a great flavor and quite a bit of spice. Small place but we didn’t have to wait long. The food comes out very quickly.

Best Mexican place I’ve ever been to, the Lalo’s Burrito (steak, chorizo, rice, beans, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, cilantro, SLATHERED in queso blanco) is the true peak of the menu. Place is always clean, workers are efficient, respectful, and they’ll remember you! Every place I’ve been to ever since I’ve been here has been a disappointment, they all pale in comparison to Lalo’s.

We tried this spot because it had 4.9 stars but boyfriend got deathly sick. He had the sope. Only ate 1 of the 3 on way home had to pull over for him to get sick. Spent the rest of night in the bathroom until nothing else would come up. Or out His muscles and joints hurt . Had high hopes but will not be going back.

Lalos 2 in Dubuque continues to deliver every time. Food came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor, and the portions are solid for the price. The tacos al pastor were especially good—great seasoning, tender meat, and exactly what you hope for when you order them. Staff was friendly, quick, and kept things moving without rushing us. Easy place to relax, eat well, and leave happy. Definitely a go-to when the craving for real Mexican food hits.

Seriously the very definition of comfort food. We are from CR, in town for a show and looking for a quick bite. The map said it was along the way to the venue and reviews said it was worth the stop. Had to wait for a table for about 5 minutes. Chips arrived, drinks were ordered, and all was good. Mexican restaurants got it figured out, put food in front of people right away. No draft beers in the house, but your standard selection of bottled beer you’ll find in most Mexican restaurants (not trying to be some cork sniffing ‘fusion’ Mexican fare). Paloma was made in bulk ahead of time and just came in a glass with ice, but tasted like a decent Paloma. Our meal was fast, hot, plentiful, and tasty.
The place is tiny inside and it was packed. It was early Saturday evening so it was to be expected. But despite being busy, service was prompt, food arrived quickly. Good Mexican food reminds me of home in Arizona and is a culinary warm hug. Lalos is worth the stop for comfort food.
