I first came on Cinco de Mayo and the place was packed. I knew I would have a long wait so I ordered Steak Fajitas to go. Also, I tried the Guacamole and the Esquite. The wait was about 45 minutes, so while I waited I ordered the Spicy Pineapple Margarita. It was superb, I like spicy and it was just right! The bartender was a young man and very nice. When I got my to go order, I noticed the beans, lettuce and rice were missing. He quickly got me the missing items.
The Guacamole was good, but it needed a little salt. The size is huge and for $11.50 not bad for several people. But, for one person way to costly. They need to consider a smaller size for single diners. The Esquite was okay. I was expecting grilled corn on the cob. The flavors were bland. I will not order that again. Now, the Fajitas were on point! The pricing is comparable to other restaurants serving the same cuisine. I ordered them to be cooked medium rare. They were tender and flavorable. The best items were the Guacamole, the Steak Fajitas and that incredible drink.
I had been thinking about that drink and the fajitas, hence my second trip. The first thing I noticed no diners were in the restaurant. It was about 6:45pm.
The second thing was the sign stating the bar was closed and no alcoholic drinks could be served or sold. Seems the previous owner let them hold the liquor license for a few days. I was so disappointed, but I decided to stay and eat any way. Third, there seemed to be no wait staff, just the owners.
I got a glass of water and asked for lemon. I was brought limes, but I clarified I wanted lemon and got a wedge of lemon.
Since the Guacamole was too much for one person and pricey, I ordered the Steak Fajitas. I forgot to let them know to bring regular beans since the refried beans are cooked with lard.
The Steak Fajitas were good, but not as flavorable. But, they were very tender. The onions and peppers were okay, not enough onion and they were slightly caramelized. They were piping hot and the three flour tortillas were hot, also.
I was shocked and appalled that the beans which they charge $4.50 was served in the same size bowl that they give you the salsa in.
Overall, the restaurant is beautifully decorated. The mural on the back wall is beautiful. The food was good, but they may want to rethink a few things like the guacamole and the beans. I will likely return just to have that incredible drink.
Decided to have a 3rd visit before posting this review.
I decided to order something different, so I decided to get the tacos. The prices are for one taco by itself. When I say by itself, I mean no rice, no beans, nothing!!!! Now I know some places try to make themselves stand out by doing things a little different, but how much could it hurt to have beans and rice with the tacos. Same thing with the burritos, they are supposed to be authentic because the beans are in the burrito and not on the side. I ordered the beans again and the time it was served in a bigger bowl.
The shredded beef burrito was good, but it could have had a little more flavor. The red snapper burrito was delicious. The beans were good and in that much bigger bowl, I mentioned. The drink again was on point, but was served in a smaller glass. Not sure, I got the same amount of drink for the price.
Overall, this place could be a great go to place for good drinks and food. I just think they need to rethink some of their offerings and prices.
