This was our first time at this restaurant and we loved the vibe, we lucked out with the seats as the restaurant itself is cute and cozy and not too many tables. We went around Christmas, and it was lit up so well and festive. The lamb vindaloo was truly authentic and spicy like it is described. Out favorite was that and the goat cheese naan. Would definitely recommend eating here or taking out from here

We stopped here after our Maryland Heights trail hike and had Mumbai vadapav(they serve 2),garlic cilantro naan and paneer makhani served with rice. Overall good, spice level is moderate. If you prefer spicy I would suggest to ask them to make it spicy. The service is good, didn’t take too long,we had one customer that was served before us. Space might be tight for a big group,we were 5 people but they made arrangements by joining the table.

Featuring a limited but well-crafted menu, Train to Mumbai offers variety with high quality. Over the last few months, I’ve visited four times and have ordered different entrees and appetizers each time, and I’ve yet to be disappointed. From what I’ve eaten, the saag paneer as an entree and onion + kale fritters as an appetizer, and truffle ghee naan have been my personal favorites.
Apart from food, staff is friendly, and the owner takes the time and effort to ensure guests have had their needs met and are satisfied. The dining area is small, and weekend nights are often busy, but my planned visits to dine in right around the time dinner hours begin has always guaranteed me a table.
I definitely plan to continue making the half-hour drive from where I live to visit Train to Mumbai whenever I’m in the mood for Indian food, as it’s the first favorite from the general area I’ve had in some time. If there is only one recommendation to offer, I’d say to add spicy non-meat options to the menu. As someone with a vegetarian diet who enjoys spice, I’d love to try out those flavors.

Pretty good food, with pleasant staff. It’s a small restaurant with self-seating. The food was good, however the garlic naan was a bit bland, but my wife loved it! The place is a bit pricey with appetizers $10-$11 and $19-$21 per main course.

What luck to score a table on Valentine’s Day at this unassuming gem of place located on the square in Lovettsville. Fusing fragrant dishes with roots in the markets of Mumbai with the freshest meats and produce from the farms of the Potomac basin, this small kitchen cranks out food that makes you go WOW. The flatbreads are bold and bodacious, the curries are as flavorful as they are colorful, and the portions feel generous for the price.
Don’t let the small dining room fool you. They do a brisk takeout business here. While all that activity detracts from the dining room service, they were kind and gracious when they emerged from the kitchen.
We’ll be back when the weather breaks and we can pop in here after a C&O canal ride. I recommend you make a stop, as well.

Great place! Some really interesting and yummy appetizers and overall good food and atmosphere. We had a wonderful guava chili drink w the right combination of sweet and spicy, the Georges mill goat cheese + sweet green peas kulcha was heavenly (we had just visited the goat farm so how could we not), & a succulent deliciously spiced Slow Braised Lamb Curry. Only thing we would not order again is the chicken biryani which we found dry & bland. And hope they will eventually move to NON plastic throw away cups for drinks. But all was beautifully presented from sweet servers. I wish we lived closer to this little gem of a restaurant because they have a wonderful & distinct menu. Easy to find gluten free & vegan too! Highly recommend!
