I would describe our meal here as “interesting.” We had reservations through Opentable. We were drawn to the location obviously because of the views of the ocean. Our reservation time was around sunset, so it was beautiful. The service and staff were attentive but not the best and maybe seemed confused about the restaurant itself. Perhaps it was new staff. The bread service was the most unique we have had anywhere. The bread was delicious, but the butter candle lighting was not done well and was quite an experience. We liked the okra appetizer, but one of them was not edible. Entrees were very salted and could be nice for some, but it was too much for us. Overall, we feel like there is so much potential with just a few improvements to service and food.

The Rooftop at The Rooftop at Ocean Lodge Resort delivered an unforgettable Valentine’s Day experience. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was intimate, elegant, and perfectly set for a special night.

Chef Matt Schleis truly outdid himself with an incredible five-course Valentine’s Day menu. Every course was thoughtful, beautifully plated, and packed with bold, balanced flavors that showcased both creativity and refined technique. You could feel the intention and passion behind each dish.

The service was seamless, the pacing was perfect, and the rooftop views only elevated the experience. This wasn’t just dinner—it was an experience from start to finish.

If you’re looking for exceptional cuisine, a romantic setting, and a chef who consistently raises the bar, The Rooftop at Ocean Lodge Resort is a must. We’ll absolutely be back.

We had the best Love Day dinner on Valentine’s—pre-set menu w choices within—unbelievably delectable! May be the best food experience we’ve ever had and we consider ourselves adventurous foodies! Easy to see why Chef Matt has won so many awards—but it wasn’t just the food—it was the presentation—the dishes were high quality, the stemware were substantial, the unexpected live music was a treat—and the portions?!! Wow! Such great size portions of the most insanely good food-did I mention they treated us to a long stem rose? ——made us feel so special, like we were the only ones there-Jay was the best waiter—impeccable manners and service

We had a group of 9 girls on a Saturday… they had some phenomenal music guest playing that were so kind. Our food was incredible and all of the service was top notch. It does take a minute for all the food to come out but we had the best time and food at this restaurant. Thank you guys so much for our amazing experience.

There were good and not so good parts of our dining experience-

Let’s start with the good- the waitress who I’m not sure ever gave us her name was nice and accomidating- at first however after receiving our food she did not check on us and we waited quite some time to ask for dessert and check-

The food-
We ordered the charcuterie board for an appetizer. It was good and had a good amount of variety on it-
I had the catfish and got mashed potatoes and broccoli instead of what was listed- delicious except for the broccoli – wasn’t couldn’t long enough-
My husband had the ribeye dinner- steak was one of the best we’ve had – I don’t normally like steak let alone cooked medium but I tried it and it was awesome!

We ordered the peach shortcake dessert- it was ok- the main problem was we waited over 30 minutes to get it and when asked what was taking so long we were told by the hostess they had just sat a large table and that our dessert would be out soon- we then proceeded to wait another 10-15 mins for the dessert – and for a fine dining restaurant this dessert fell a little short of our expectations-
Overall, the food was good however, there are definitely room for improvement. My biggest issue was with the timeliness of the service also to be noted, which may be important to some they do not offer military discount/
I would eat there again, however a biscuit with peaches and ice cream should not take 45 minutes to come out regardless of how busy a establishment is-

For an expensive Valentine dinner it was 1 star at best. The smell from their cleaning products was overwhelming. The wine was mediocre at best. The lobster bisque was only warm. The wedge salid was fair. The sea bass polenta was heavily salted. The filet was prepared perfectly and was the highlight of a very disappointing evening. The service was sub par due to our waiter not being adequately trained for fine dining. He did try his best. We constantly had to ask for the wine pairing to be brought to our table before we received a course. When our main courses came we had to wait for silverware. All and all a very over priced evening. We will not return.

Food was amazing- best we’ve had on the island this trip. The bread service with butter candle was yum and so fun. We can attest that the Sea Bass and Shrimp & Grits were great. The service was a little slow but we understand that they have to go downstairs to get some items and it was nothing that would keep us from going back. Great atmosphere as well!

We attended the Christmas Eve reopening of the Rooftop Beach Pub at Ocean Lodge last evening. Not our first visit and surely not our last. We enjoyed listening to the music of Michael Hulet, the cocktails and the awesome views. If you have not had the opportunity to try Mat Schleis’ outstanding food, you should! He never disappoints!!

We sat at our tables at around 6:15

It took over 30 minutes just to get our drinks, and while they initially said the drinks were on the house (which I appreciated), the rest of the experience was extremely disappointing.

I didn’t receive my food until around 8:20 PM — and meanwhile, five of my friends who were seated at a separate table nearby (with a different server) never got their food at all.

When my meal finally arrived, I found what very clearly looked like a bug or insect pupa in it. I’ve attached a photo — it had body segments and legs. The manager came over and said, “I’m not trying to be rude, but at the end of the day we’re outside,” as if that somehow made it acceptable. She said the meal would be comped, which I appreciated.

But then the server came back to charge me for the meal anyway. I told her the manager had said it would be comped due to the bug. The server denied it was a bug, claiming it was a “green,” but took the check back.

On top of all that, the rest of the food we received was extremely salty, which just added to the disappointment.

Between the unacceptable delays, the bug in my food, my friends being completely forgotten, the attitude from the staff, and the poor quality of the food, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. I left feeling disgusted and disrespected.
