Erin our server made up for the fact that it took a really long time for someone to check in with our table after being seated. She was efficient with our large group. I give Erin’s service 4 stars but it’s clear there not much of a system for how the staff ensures tables are taken care of. Food was yummy and came quickly once we were able to place our orders. Herring basket was tasty and caught local!

The food is phenomenal. Erin is an excellent waitron. She will remember your order and take good care of you. Yes, they are a bit understaffed at the moment but the food far makes up for the wait. The pancakes, fried green beans, and Walleye are spectacular! There is always a very inexpensive daily special. The best one is the coconut shrimp . I’m. Pescatarian and there are PLENTY of options. My wife is vegetarian and the kitchen will accommodate the restrictions easily. If you’re willing to wait, the food is worth it!!

This place is inside the Grand Portage Casino, google maps takes you to the back of the building but you need to park at the casino entrance and walk in.
We had Veg Pizza, Portage salad, chicken Parmesan salad, chicken wings and walleye fries. All of the items tasted good. We liked the service.
Price for 5 items without drinks was around 115$.

My family and I tried out the buffet one evening, simply because there were no other places to go.
There were a ton of empty tables, however a line to get in. The hostess was in charge of seating guests, cleaning the tables AND checking people out at the end of their dinner. When we left there were probably 10-15 people in line.
We were seated with a nice view of the lake. Our server was friendly, and relatively attentive. He was at least pleasant.
The buffet was nothing short of a disaster. The bread was hard, stale and inedible. There were flies everywhere.
They had 2 separate buffet areas to include salad and then main courses. The main course section had a few choices for veggies, mac n cheese and some other choices. The veggies were ok, but everything else just looked gross.
The small highlight was the prime rib. It was pretty good however I was given a very small slice. The second time I went up I was given even a smaller slice. (It’s a buffet)
It was hard to find a steak knife or a soup spoon. Things were ravished though and honestly it was a very poor experience.
I know options are limited, but if you can…travel the 30 minutes outside town to something more palatable.
The buffet was $20 a person.

We had breakfast there, it was excellent so is the service. We were able to park our truck and snowmobile trailer on site as It has a gigantic parking lot. They are right on the snowmobile trails.

Came here for the first time yesterday with a friend who highly recommended it. Ended up having the worst experience we’ve ever had at a restaurant. The server Jazzmin was verbally aggressive towards my friend, telling her not to have attitude and accusing me of saying things I never did while she was slamming down the receipt in the middle of us eating and asking for us to pay before we were done so she could leave, mind you it was not even 7pm. We were okay with paying early and understood until she confronted my friend about her “attitude” when she asked her to fix the cheques since Jazzmin never asked how we wanted them split and originally put them all on one bill when she slammed the receipt on the table and walked away (maybe 5 minutes into getting our food). She then continued to go back to the other servers/bus boys and talk about us and pointing us out. When we paid she tried to keep our receipts where we would write the tip on it, and when asked for it was immediately confrontational and totally unprofessional and told us we didn’t need them they were hers even though we told her we didn’t fill them out. She refused to give them to my friend until I asked for mine and gave her my reason for wanting it because she asked why I need it. I have never had or expected a server to act this way giving us such bad anxiety and an unwelcoming feeling. She refused to give me a managers number when I asked. Because of this experience, I probably will never return here and will not recommend anyone to. We were going to go to the casino but had such a bad experience we left after this happened.
I would like to say we were able to talk to the manager Roy (I think his name was) and came out even when he was working an event to hear what happened. He was very apologetic and ensured us it will be taken care of. I’m thankful for this but still the worst experience I have ever had.

There are mixed reviews of this place. But we had a great experience…the food was very good. I had the special half rack of ribs, baked potato and corn. The cream of chicken, wild rice soup was delicious as well.

Crystal was very sweet and accommodating. The smokehouse burger, fries, and Portage salad all tasted great, especially after a long hike on Isle Royale. Nice views of the harbor. This place should have a better rating!

The food was nasty. Very clearly all frozen and reheated… not what you would expect for the price of the food. Spent over $100 for 3 people and ended up going to the room and eating snacks. The server was very sweet but the food was NOT edible. Highly highly disappointed cause the menu sounded delicious.
