Urdaneta is a Chef driven regional Spanish tapas restaurant. The casual environment brings back the old world fun of tapas and libations, encompassing what the food is meant to be. In essence, Urdaneta combines big and bold Spanish flavors with a modern interpretation. Our house craft cocktails, Spanish wines and sherries, and Basque sidra play the perfect counterpart, in our vibrant tapas culture. The open kitchen and bar provide a sense of intimate and communal dining, offering every guest a front row seat to the action and heart of what we do. Owned by Basque and Spanish Chef, Javier Canteras, in Portland, Oregon. We currently offer reservations for indoor dining and covered, outdoor patio seating.

Comfortable, chic choice for creative Spanish small plates paired with craft cocktails & wine.

Urdaneta is a masterclass in intimate, high-end dining. We booked two weeks out for a birthday celebration, and it was worth every bit of the hype.
The Vibe: The space is small but incredibly well-organized, hummed with energy without feeling crowded. The service was top-notch—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. They even kicked off our night with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine for a birthday toast.
The Food: Every tapa we ordered was a “wow” moment. The flavors are bold, authentic, and beautifully plated.
• Must-Haves: Don’t even think about leaving without ordering the chocolate cake. It’s rich, decadent, and the perfect finish.
The Verdict: If you want an elevated, foodie-approved experience in PDX, this is it. Just make sure you snag that reservation early!

We went to this Spanish restaurant, and as a Spaniard, I have to say the experience was great. Andrew took care of us and was super friendly the whole time. He explained every dish and even told us a bit about the restaurant’s story.

The food was amazing. After three years living in the U.S., this is honestly the best Spanish food I’ve had here. Everything tasted authentic and really delicious.

Definitely a place I highly recommend!

Urdaneta offers an extraordinary culinary experience in Portland. Every dish was beautifully crafted, unique, flavorful, and full of character. What truly elevated our evening, however, was the exceptional service from our server, Nathan. His warmth, charm, and deep knowledge of both the menu and the diverse regions of Spain that inspire it made the meal not only delicious but also genuinely enriching.

Nathan’s thoughtful wine pairings complemented each course perfectly, and his storytelling brought an added depth to the dining experience. The combination of exquisite flavors and outstanding hospitality sparked engaging conversation throughout a beautiful and memorable night.

The perfect tapas restaurant! Felt like we were transported back to Europe. Such an amazing variety of tapas – some local and seasonal, some classic staples. All the perfect bite size. And so, so yummy. Cocktails were innovate and delicious. The sherry flight that they paired with our meal was out of this world! We were an hour early to our reservation and they were still able to accommodate us at their lovely outdoor seating area. Staff was so friendly and helpful! Would absolutely go back to see how their menu evolves and get some classic croquetas.

Obviously the food is the star of the show, and it did not disappoint.
But the service here is literally the best I’ve ever experienced in Portland. Everyone we interacted with was smiling and warm and very helpful. They explained every dish as they set it down, and were knowledgeable of the wine and made suggestions to pair with our dinner.
Bravo Urdaneta, THIS is how you run a restaurant.

Easily the best meal and experience I’ve had in Portland in a very long time!
I don’t really know what else to say but wow! This place exceeded expectations, but I didn’t really know what to expect.
This cozy, intimate restaurant where the people who work there are proud to be a part of this and really love this restaurant just as much or more than the patrons, and it shows.
The food is exceptional, the staff was knowledgeable but beyond that…
Still reeling about this!
Can’t wait to come back!

One of my favorite restaurants in Portland. This is a Basque restaurant, and it meets those expectations with ease. The staff is always absolutely phenomenal and the food is amazing. I would recommend this restaurant multiple times over as we have yet to have a bad experience here. I would definitely recommend reservations. Our usual favorites are pretty much everything but if octopus is on the menu we always go for that no matter how it is prepared. Generally the goal here is plates to share and we always over do it, but honestly wouldn’t have it any other way.

This may be my new favorite restaurant in Portland. Every menu item we ordered was delicious, and the service was top notch. It’s a small place and the cozier vibe contributed to such a positive experience. It transported me right back to Spain!
