Mermaid Winery has two locations on the Southside of Hampton Roads: Our flagship store is located in downtown Norfolk in a national Landmark, which was formerly a bank built in 1908. The mermaid is a mythical source of beauty that represents our vision to produce stunning wines. Our limited production wines are focused on articulating the characteristics of each varietal. The grapes are sourced from premiere vineyards in Virginia and California and we do our best to express their terroir. We hope you will be pleased with our creation. In addition to producing our own wines, we are also a wine bar and restaurant. We currently have 800 different wines from around the world for you to taste. We look forward to seeing you soon! Mermaid Winery is an eclectic spot with a fun atmosphere, featuring colorful mood lighting, a massive mermaid mural, and whimsical artwork of animals drinking wine. It feels like its kitchen is still developing its identity, but there is a lot of promise here.
THE FOOD
Southern Bread Service: Do not skip the biscuits! These three massive biscuits had a crisp shell and a warm, steamy crumb. They are 100% shareable (or you will be too stuffed for your main), and they were the highlight of our brief stopover.
The Redneck Roll: This dish was a bit of a “whirlwind.” Between the blackened tuna, pineapple, sriracha, and BBQ sauce, there was so much going on that it became confusing to the palate. I would likely pass on this specific roll next time in favor of a simpler option.
SERVICE
The hospitality was a strong point. The manager and bartender were kind enough to share tastes of their popular red wines, which helped us navigate the drink menu.

A cool place to hang out with unique decor and decent service. I look forward to seeing how the menu evolves to match the potential of the venue.

Yesterday was my birthday and I had the pleasure of visiting this establishment and meeting the wonderful Mia. She made my birthday so special! Her service was amazing, all while she was hosting, bussing, serving, and more by herself! Though she was handling the front on her own she did not let that deter her from displaying positivity and hospitality. I seen her service my table, others, and the bar and we all got such an upbeat and welcoming personality from her which many cannot do during a high stress situation like she was in. She is the epitome of a server, hostess, and so much more! The bread service was amazing and so was the pasta. The atmosphere is intimate and so astonishing..the perfect place to take pictures. The decor is wonderful, and there’s so many spaces to take good pictures. Even the bathrooms are picture worthy! Thank you so much Mia for making my experience what it was!

Great place to enjoy a delicious dinner and some wine. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a sultry underwater theme that pays homage to the name, and the atmosphere feels intimate and cozy. The mermaid fries are SO good, and my shrimp risotto was rich, creamy, and flavorful. The food portions are generous and filling. The wine list is extensive! There are also cocktails if you prefer those. I got the house Merlot and it was one of the smoothest wines I’d ever tasted. Our server was so nice and very knowledgeable about the food menu as well as the wine.

Hostess had a bad attitude. Her first comment to us was we only had a hour and a half before the next table would need to be sat. Then it took 20 min before we even got seen by a server. Server was awesome trying to make up for the bad experience. Asked for a dessert menu and was told that would take a while to come out. Overalll an awful experience for our pre-valentines dinner. Wine was great but I would never recommend anyone come here for a special occasion.

We visited on March 6 and were greeted by Evan who could not have been more accommodating to ensure we had great service. Our food was delicious. There were 3 of us for lunch. Highly recommend the seared tuna sandwich and the tuna tacos. Great wine list. The ambiance of the restaurant is wonderful. Don’t miss it!!!

We had a wonderful evening at Mermaid Winery in Norfolk, with a beautiful atmosphere that immediately makes you feel comfortable. The service was excellent—very attentive, friendly, and professional without being intrusive. The menu is intentionally small and well curated; since we were a larger group, not all dishes were available, but there was still something for everyone. I had the filet mignon, which was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The restaurant also offers an outstanding and generous wine selection that perfectly complements the food. The nachos as a starter are highly recommended—simply amazing. Overall, we were extremely satisfied. A fantastic experience, we would happily return and can highly recommend it.

I went here with my aunt and my mother and we definitely got way too much food because everything on the menu sounded SO GOOD. And the menu did not disappoint actually, everything I tried was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was very very kind and funny and attentive despite our neediness! We all had shirley temples and when I asked for a refill my mom made a joking comment about how I shouldn’t get any cherries because we were having a competition, and he gave me SEVEN CHERRIES! i counted. I had probably 12 cherries that whole night it was beautiful. Thank you Jeremy!

Phenomenal service and food! We did wine flights and had dinner. The food, especially the bison burger and mermaid fries, was delicious. The staff were also very polite. We’ll be making this a regular thing for us at least once per month.
