Incredible! Lots of places claim to serve “authentic” Mexican food, but none come close to the flavors and atmosphere of La Chilanguita. True to its name, it feels like a restaurant that you’d find in the streets of Mexico City! Our friendly server greeted us and quickly brought us a pan of chips just like you’d get in Mexico — thicker than usual for the US, crunchy, and slightly chewy — topped with beans and cheese and served with salsas verde (fresh with a bite) and roja (liquid fire). I had the milanesa de pollo (chicken breast pounded super thin, breaded, and fried), served with tortillas, a plate of fries, beans, rice, and salad. Hubs had alambres de pollo and very much enjoyed it. I wanted an horchata and, at the servers recommendation, we had and loved the horchata de fresa (which comes in a small size — not on the menu!). I wanted to try a dessert, but we were stuffed and brought home leftovers. All this with tip for a little over $50! 90% of the other customers appeared to be Latine, an indicator that this place is legit! We’ll definitely return!

My family and I really like this restaurant! They definitely don’t skimp on the portions you will get your money’s worth. My kids really like the tortilla chip’s they put out while you’re waiting for your food. And the decor is really nice

Really good taqueria! Initially assumed this place was fast food tex-mex but was pleasantly surprised to discover that it wasn’t. They offer an assortment of guacamole options that are absolutely delicious. The tacos rise above expectations and are devine. Although an “ordinary”/unassuming appearance, this place is everything but ordinary. Our server, Jasmine, was kind, patient, and attentive. I will make an effort to frequent this place when visiting Norristown.

Amazing food! Amazing service. Everyone is so kind and welcoming. Definitely try their birria tacos. Their Mexican juices are so good, love the melon one. So yummy. Perfect little lunch spot. Cute decor. Their menu is massive.

Neighborhood feel corner Mexican joint. Food was average for family run non-chain Mexican, and not inexpensive Flan was so so compared to what I had in Mexico. Small inside.

Great food & friendly atmosphere. Free fresh chips & salsa. It is spicy. If in town again this place is a repeat for us.

Urbane and a bit costlier than some Mexican restaurants in Gringolandia, La Chilanguita is a winner: the pozole verde—a weekend special—proved delicioso during a recent visit, with tender pieces of pork in a thick, fragrant broth, and chicken flautas thrown in (literally) for garnish. In addition to Chilango fare, the menu also contains tlayudas (from Oaxaca), among other surprises that will keep you coming back.

My family and I have mixed feelings about La Chilanguita. Their food is AMAZING that’s for sure and I would’ve given them 5 stars for just their food alone. However, prices are a whole other story. The prices aren’t very cheap to start with but then they charge you more than the menu tells you. I was the only one in my family to have their meal price match the one on the menu! If they want to charge you more money then just put down the truth on the menu so you know what you’re paying for. We all just wanted tap water and they gave us bottles ($1.50 each) and they didn’t even tell us the price. This place is good for their food but don’t go here if you’re looking for somewhere with affordable prices. Also got charged a food and drink tax probably for paying with a credit card. Take your money somewhere that doesn’t SCAM you.
