Reviews
The ribs weren’t as soft or fall off the bone type, the brisket was ok, the sides were not as tasty or kinda dry, although I liked the galic mashed potatoes. Extra bbq sauce was almost $4 LOL.
The place has great potential but i’d skip this place next time. Enjoy!
Area: located near western and 79th. Was kinda hard to find it at first. Located between a barbershop and hair salon.
Parking: Due to being on a main street parking is sometimes hard to find and wouldn’t recommend to park in front because its a bus stop. Might get a ticket.
Diner: As soon as you enter the place, it is a small location with a food display on the right and board menu with only 2 tables available to sit. Feels very small inside, so I would recommend getting food to go.
Service: When we entered, we were greeted nicely and were directed to the menu and on how we order plates. They also informed us on their weekly specials, which is located next to the register.
Food: We ended ordering 3 mix plates
2 with ribs, brisket, and mac n cheese with baked beans and one kid plate with fried wings and rice and beans. All came with corn bread. The star of the show was the ribs 8/10 and wings. 10/10. Unfortunately, the brisket was hard to chew. Felt like reheated brisket. The cornbread was the worst cornbread i have ever had. As soon as you touch it, it crumbled in my hand. No flavor at all. The mac n chesse was good 8/10 beans where ok 6/10.
Price: prices were decent less pricer than phillips, that’s for sure. We ended up paying around 50 in total for everything. The only downfall was that they only do cash. Good thing i had cash.
As i mentioned, this is the second time i try soul food and will not be my last, and i am basing my opinion on the only 2 places I’ve been. I would definitely recommend avoiding the cornbread.
The BBQ salmon was good, but the shrimp was burnt. The chicken andouille link and BBQ beans were cool. The potato salad was a little sweet. The mac’ n cheese was okay. The cornbread was dry on the outside and moist on the inside.
Replying to the owner:
**Again, customer service is essential in any business. It’s Wendy replying, but your lies make it much more shameful. You could at least tell the entire truth.
I can’t even read your reply because the first few lies got me smh….
I remember everything that occurred and what was said. You never said you were on a conference call until I returned to get my food. When I walked up, nothing related to your discrepancy with the previous customer (although I heard it all) should have been the first thing out of your mouth to me. I disregarded your unprofessionalism and still placed an order. If you have cameras with video and audio, please share them. It would eliminate that back-and-forth. You never once asked if I wanted a dessert or a beverage with my order, lol. You didn’t ask me that question until I walked back in to pick up my food after the gentleman said Wendy wanted me to ask if you wanted a cold beverage or a dessert. (which was to make up for you overcharging me)
($21.95 base meal + $1.00 mac up charge + $1.25 for BBQ sauce will never equal $26.90) where would I get the prices on the board changed every day? You brought it up to try and justify why what was on the board was not the same as what was in the register. How do I know about an online lol?
Even if the prices changed daily, it’s a chalkboard. Erase them and change them. (idea)
Wendy, you need some customer service training because you will be why customers don’t return, and you should not reply to customer reviews.
You made a mistake. You were sarcastic about overcharging me, and you still don’t get it.
SMH………
The bad review was for Wendy’s lack of customer service, unprofessionalism, and dishonesty.
*Wendy, the mere fact that you are going back and forth with the lies and no accountability for YOUR MISTAKE of overcharging, lack of customer service, and unprofessionalism proves that you shouldn’t be handling any type of business. “ Like I said share the video”
I was holding him! So he wouldn’t touch anywhere, not even the floor, in the standing room takeout ordering area. They don’t have eat in customers right now.
They always seemingly remembered me in the past, so this was super disappointing. I can’t leave my dog in the car, no option to leave him at home. So thanks D’s, you may not have remembered me this time. But your attitudes left a lasting impression on me. I think this time was my last time at D’s.
Way to break ADA federal law.
From 5 stars to 1.
In response to their response.
It seems like you were insinuating I didn’t have a mask on. I did. I put in on in the car before I walked to your establishment.
It was not my second visit, I have been about a dozen times before. Hence why I mentioned my dog has been in my arms 6 times before without issue, including during covid.
I am pleased you know the ADA rules. Not many businesses claim to know them. Now had you followed through return said knowledge when I stated ‘he is a service animal’ this wouldn’t be written right now. As a good animal owner of a service animal, I have his MD note on me at all times. I didn’t even get a chance to demonstrate that before I was verbally and hand gestured to get the F-out. I never graced the threshold of your entrance.
As for fighting you refer to, there was no fight, no escalation of volume from me. No words beyond ‘he is a service animal ‘ during which I was interrupted and hand waved off. So I turned back and walked towards my vehicle. Not a fight, more like kids who builly the nerd on the playground. One sided. Out of style. So not how it works in society today. Cancel culture? Hmmm…
Window service would be awesome, that could have avoided this. I liked your food, best bbq in LA. But being shunned, shooed away before entering, without any time to talk like adults or prove my situation, well, I don’t like that treatment. I know other customers wouldn’t either.
Facts. But I respect your rights as a business owner, even more so when you care to follow them. Customers have rights too. I was discriminated here. That wasn’t the case here.
I wanted to let the public be aware of the truthiness of the situation. Thank you.
Update after reply:
This place is ran by disrespectful people especially the lady who supposedly runs the place yes I know you. This is the second time her rude manners stood out to me. The main reason my order was changed the second time was because you messed up my order and gave me beans instead of chicken when I ordered and I caught it.THAT’S RIGHT.Did you also see that on camera? That’s when I added the cheesecake to the order and yes pictures don’t lie it was a small cheesecake so what are you talking about? Also it got decline not because of my card but because of you not really knowing what you were doing the first time because i gave you the same card again the second time and it went thru. Anyway Keep your so called nasty soul food.Guys stay away from this place
