My wife and I had a show to attend in Knoxville last night, so we decided to come down early and enjoy a nice dinner beforehand. Cappuccino’s had been on our list for quite some time, specifically because we both love Cacio e Pepe — it’s been our favorite dish ever since we first had it in Italy.

We arrived right at 5:00 when they opened, hoping to get a table without a reservation. The setup was interesting — the building is split into two restaurants, with Cappuccino’s on one side and Copper Cellar Seafood & Oysters on the other, which I thought was pretty unique. We were the first guests in and thankfully got a table, though I will note it still took about 15–20 minutes to actually be seated. Things didn’t seem to get moving very quickly.

Since we were a bit pressed for time, we placed our full order right away. We started with a Hugo Spritz and an Aperol Spritz, trying to relive a bit of Italy since those drinks aren’t offered everywhere. We ordered the Caprese as an appetizer, and — unsurprisingly — both went with the Cacio e Pepe.

The complimentary bread with herbs and spices came out first and was absolutely fantastic. The drinks were excellent and very well made, and the Caprese was fresh and enjoyable. At that point, expectations were high, and we fully expected the Cacio e Pepe to be the highlight. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

Both of us were genuinely taken aback by how underwhelming the dish was. The flavor just didn’t come through the way we hoped. While I reminded myself that nothing is going to match the Cacio e Pepe we had in Italy, it was still disappointing given how strong everything else had been leading up to it.

That said, I can’t write this review without mentioning our server, Abby, who was outstanding. She was lively, personable, welcoming, and truly elevated the entire experience. Great service can sometimes save a meal, and in this case, it absolutely did.

While we don’t live in Knoxville and likely won’t be back often, I wouldn’t completely rule it out in the future. If I could rate it numerically, I’d give it an 8/10 overall. Since it doesn’t feel fair to judge the entire experience solely on the entrée — especially with such strong service, drinks, and appetizers — I’m giving 5 out of 5 stars.

The wait was 2min to be seated. The food was excellent. Portions were huge. Our server Mya was very nice, knowledgeable and attentive. We started with the Arancini appetizer. My husband had chicken parmesan and I had fettuccine Alfredo with scallops. The proteins were cooked perfectly, the pasta and sauces were the best I’ve had in Knoxville. We would definitely return.

This restaurant inside Copper Cellar was a decent dining experience overall. The food was fresh and thoughtfully prepared, though it didn’t quite reach an excellent or standout level for us. Everything tasted good, just not especially memorable.

The service was attentive and friendly, which definitely helped elevate the experience. Our server checked in at the right times and made sure everything was taken care of. While the menu and flavors could be more authentic, the dishes were still enjoyable and well executed.

Overall, it’s a solid option if you’re already at Copper Cellar or looking for a reliable meal, even if it doesn’t quite deliver a truly authentic or exceptional experience.

Received great service from the waitress. The martinis and main course (Veal Piccata) were alright. Was underwhelmed by the starter, Momma’s Meatballs. The sauce was bland with no sight of garlic or herbs apart from the chopped herb sprinkled on top. I may come back to try something else but am not very compelled to.

We stopped in from out of town on a Friday night at 6:30. We were told the wait would be about 40mins but it only ended up being about 20/25mins. Great wine selection and highly recommend the manicotti. Service was fast and great. Overall a great dining experience!

We love to sit at the cozy old school ornate wood and copper bar for drinks and dinner. We often meet new and old friends around the friendly bar. I’ve eaten a lot of lasagne around the country and world but the best I’ve ever had is at Cappuccino’s. It’s sounds like a mundane entre option but don’t be fooled. Try it, you’ll love it.

The pasta sauce was watery, the chicken parm was burnt and then covered with cheese so they could still sell it, and it was just disappointing because I was really expecting quality Italian food, but it fell short. The atmosphere is fantastic, and maybe the copper seller steakhouse menu has a bit more integrity than the cappuccino’s menu. I’m still looking for a true quality Italian restaurant here, and I have yet to find one. I can now cross this one off the list.

We had a pleasant time. My husband and I both got the lasagna and while the taste was great it was essentially a pound of ricotta cheese, some pasta topped with a 1/4lb of mozzarella. We couldnt eat 1/4 of it before feeling as though we were going to get sick from the dairy. The staff was very nice and offered us a new dish so we got something to share. My friend loved his dish and tiramisu! The restaurant was very clean and we will be back next time we pass through!

Would like to clarify some history of Cappacinos. All articles I have found says Cappacinos opened on Kingston Pike in 1977. I know for a fact it was open in 1972. I gave my wife her engagement ring at Cappacinos in Feb 1972. We were married in Aug. 1972. We attended UTK from 1969 to 1973 and dined at Ivanhoes/Copper Cellar many times during that time. That was the first and only time we dined at Cappacinos. Don’t know how all the articles have been wrong about this but I know for a fact they were open in 1972. If you can verify this please do so in post.
