Burnt ends are the Tuesday special 10/10 & the Mac is dangerous!
The Only 5-Star BBQ in Washington
I’m always hunting for real 5-star BBQ, and Kelly’s delivered.
The Burnt Ends Special was worth the 80-mile drive. My wife ordered the brisket and mac n’ cheese and didn’t share—enough said.
Most BBQ spots fall into two camps: huge, sauce-drenched 1-star plates, or smaller but quality 3.5-star joints.
Only a few in the entire state deserve 4 stars.
As that fifth star is earned, and Kelly’s earns it because they do what no BBQ place I have visited can: they make great beans.
I judge BBQ on meat first and beans second,
Because if you can’t make great beans—or don’t care.
It shows a lack of respect.
Like owning a DQ knowing banana splits and Ice Cream is 50% of your sales and telling customers I’m sorry the Ice cream machine is down.
It’s like then WHY ARE YOU EVEN OPEN!
This only proves as the owner you don’t care.
Kelly’s meat alone is a solid 4 stars.
The beans push them to five.
Pick any meat, add the beans, and you’ll have the closest thing to a true 5-star BBQ experience in Washington, and without needing a sauce.
(Yes! they have two sauces) I prefer smoked meat with their mild sweet sauce, but I didn’t try the spicy sauce.
Even, after eating in our car which is a no, no. I didn’t drive away. I got back in line bought a quart of beans and more BBQ to take home.
10/10 will definitely be going back.
Our order was $25 for what is pictured which seemed a bit pricey, but Kelley’s is worth the exit off I-5 into Mt. Vernon.
We both had the brisket French dip w/au jous sandwich special and not only was the brisket tender and melt-in-your-mouth good, but the creamy horseradish and BBQ sauce that came with it were top shelf full of flavor. Also, my search for good mac & cheese in WA has officially ended: theirs is hearty and creamy without being overdone or over-worked and had just the right amount of seasoning. We were also offered a sample of the cowboy beans and I can tell you for a fact these were the best damn baked beans I’ve ever had, and I grew up just outside of Boston! I treated us to their oatmeal butterscotch cookies and… Oh my Gawd! Delicious! They must have someone’s grandma imprisoned in the basement!
The food is made with large amounts of love, the service is exceptional, and we will make it point to stop here EVERY time we come through here from now on.
