Reviews
All entrees seem to come with a chawan mushi appetizer, which is not only delicious but harder to find in Japanese restaurants these days. Entrees also come Japanese-set style with a pickle and tiny dessert. Decent little selection of sake and drinks. Also complimentary tea, which is delightful. Noodles seem to be made from scratch, too.
Cons:
– Very bare bones interior.
– Uneven service: My friends were 1/3 done with their meal by the time I got mine.
– Not all items on the menu list all of what is in the dish, or ingredients. This necessitates asking staff. But…
– Service was mixed. I think the cashier was new and couldn’t give very many accurate answers about the menu. They described one of the dishes like carbonara despite there not being any cheese in it.
– Asking the cashier what ingredients are in a number of dishes holds up the line. This slows down service for others. I don’t want to be that person. I would like to read the menu and understand what is in the food so I don’t have to bother others, and understand what I am ordering.
I think in today’s world of dietary restrictions, and allergies, it’s not a great move for a restaurant to not list exactly what is in all of their food. I hope in the future, this resuatant is able to update their menu to explain the all the dishes better.
Example: Udon soup (wheat noodles, dashi broth, pork, scallion, ginger, egg)
The service at the cashier was rude and unprofessional, which immediately set a negative tone. On top of that, the wait time was unacceptable. Waiting an hour for udon, especially from a restaurant that has been open since 2020, shows poor workflow and management.
The food itself was also underwhelming. The curry udon had obvious curry lumps, and both the curry udon and dandan udon broths were weak and lacked flavor. The sides were equally disappointing, the cabbage portion was so small it barely counted as a side.
Overall, this place fell short in service, efficiency, and food quality. I expected much better and would not recommend based on this experience.
On the pricier side but the noodles are handmade and the portion was really large
The food portions were big, I recommend ordering 1 dish per person haha. I got the beef noodle soup with crab roll. The noodle was made with handmade udon that was chewy and yummy!
Beef noodle soup was more on the sour soup side that I enjoyed and the crab roll was the bomb!
I loved the interior of the place, it was very cozy and home vibe. I liked how authentic it felt!
It would’ve been an overall enjoyable meal, but there are SO many flies in the restaurant, it was kind of gross 🙁 I’d be back if they fix the fly issue!
Edit: I forgot to say: Get a sake or sip some tea while you wait. The chef is making everything with care, and you can definitely taste the love. It’s worth every second!
Someone left a one-star negative review, but I think that’s an overly harsh assessment for a handmade shop. I question the character of people who so easily leave negative reviews. I feel that these are often people with limited social experience and who are not qualified to review businesses.
Systems that facilitate harassment should be changed. Efforts to provide good, homemade food should be praised, and actions that undermine motivation should be stopped.
The seating system is awkward. The place is too small to just order at the front and seat yourself. Waiters could’ve done a better job communicating and guiding. We also had a spider fall onto our table and while that’s not the restaurant’s fault – it just added to the already strange sad atmosphere of the restaurant.
