I’ve been coming to SGD Dubu So Gong Dong Tofu & Korean BBQ for years, and it never disappoints! The food is always delicious, comforting, and consistent—especially the tofu soup and LA Galbi. The flavors are authentic, the portions are generous, and the staff is always warm and welcoming.

It’s one of those rare spots that stays just as good no matter how many times you visit. Easily one of my go-to Korean restaurants!

My new go-to spot for an incredibly satisfying Korean meal! Everything is served piping hot with fresh ingredients, and the food is absolutely delicious. The side dishes are generous and bursting with flavor.

As Indian Vegetarians, we absolutely love this place. They explain everything on the menu very sweetly.

Be sure to get:
– bibambap in hot stone bowl with tofu option
– tofu soup with ramen (be sure to mention “vegetarian broth” so they don’t use the beef broth)

Overall highly recommend. Very vegetarian friendly

New place, food was BANGING. Bibimbap was great, kimchi was some of the best I’ve had. Will definitely come again.

Edit, went again, twice in a week, food was that good

So Gong Dong Tofu & Korean BBQ in Hackensack offers a delightful Korean dining experience. The restaurant features a variety of authentic dishes, including tofu stew, bibimbap, and Korean BBQ. The flavors are bold and satisfying, with fresh ingredients that highlight traditional Korean cuisine. The staff is friendly and attentive, although service can be a bit slow during peak hours. Overall, it’s a great spot for a flavorful meal with a cozy atmosphere.

Food was excellent! The tofu stew (their specialty) was so soft and silky. I wished I didn’t order it in ramen so I could savor the tofu on it’s own, next time! Service was a little chaotic. (took several mins and 3 requests for my husband to get a fork so he could eat…) Will definitely go back in month or so when they’ve settled into a groove.

Update 6/14/23:
We’ve been back a few times just forgot to update 😀

So things are way better than our 1st visit! We sat, we ordered, we got our food in a decent time and we enjoyed our meal!

Consistency. That’s how you can describe So Gong Dong. I’ve been here multiple times and experience the same thing over and over, which is a good thing:

– consistently good Korean food. People will use the word “Standard” – this is pretty accurate. I’ve never been disappointed, but nothing to write home about. However, whenever we want a comforting bowl of soondubu (bubbling-hot tofu stew), we come here.

– consistently quick, efficient service. Your order will be taken quickly upon sitting down. Banchan (side dishes) will be brought to your table 5 minutes afterwards. Your soondubu or bibimbap (spicy rice bowl with veggies and your choice of protein) will be brought out 5 minutes after that by a waiter pushing a cart stacked with orders. Your water glass will always be kept full. Although they are efficient, I’ve never felt pressured to leave so that they can turn over my table, as I have felt in other places.

We ordered don katsu (fried pork cutlet with rice, salad and sweet sauce/curry on the side) and seafood soondubu. As usual, you can choose your protein and spiciness level.

The banchan was good. However, I felt like the kimchi was a little too fresh and not fermented enough. The spiciness had not yet penetrated into the cabbage, which I prefer. The don katsu was good – standard. The salad dressing, however, didn’t have a lot of character, I tasted nothing other than mayo. The soondubu was good – as mentioned: standard. These are minor criticisms for an otherwise good meal.

The atmosphere is bright, clean with elegant and non-distracting nor overbearing decor. Although, there are ample tables and booths, this place is popular so I often see one or two families waiting in the wings during peak hours.

SGD is worth a visit when you need a comforting Korean meal. It will be as good as it was when I visited and will be the same when you go.

I was very happy with my seafood bibimbop in stone pot. It was actually on a large clay plate, which makes it easier to spoon up rather than a small clay bowl. There was a good portion of mixed vegetables and mushrooms. The typical starter Korean appetizers and light soup broth were plentiful and tasty. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. The bathroom was neat and clean.

Dropped in for lunch on a Friday at 1:30 with my husband and in-laws. We’ve been to other locations before and it was pretty good so we decided to give this one a try. Almost all the banchan dishes were great. The cucumbers were a bit soggy (or too fermented?) but I like them crunchy. The kimchi was nice and fresh. We shared a seafood pancake, which was okay – but I also don’t love the pancakes because they tend to be soggy. For the main, I had the beef soondubu but with noodles since I’ve never tried it with noodles before. It was fine but it doesn’t come with an egg. Next time, I think I’ll just stick to rice because of that. Plus I like the fact you can spoon the soup over the rice. The noodles soak up all the broth, which I don’t like.

Overall, it was pretty standard. It’s not something I would seek out to return to but if I’m in the area and craving Korean food, it will do

I have been here several times and their food quality and portions are consistently good. Price is decent compared to others. My favorite is the bento, which gives a little bit of everything. This place gets busy but turnover is fast.
