Initially, I thought this place was nice, fun, and had a TJ/Mexico vibe. There were six of us, and we mostly ordered tacos, fajitas, and seafood tostada. The sauce/salsa was good, flavorful, and spicy, just the way we like it. The karaoke spot was lively, with locals singing their hearts out. It was extremely loud, and we could barely hear each other, which was expected. However, my main gripe is about the overcharged bill. It felt like they took advantage of us because we were tourists and didn’t speak Spanish. When it was time for the bill, something told me to check the receipt. It was odd to see a bill of $222 when we mostly ordered tacos and only had two Margaritas. I know they charge 18% gratuity (for parties of 5+) but we had at least 12 tacos, 2 Margaritas, 1 Horchata, and 4 waters (the kind you get from Costco – 40 bottles for $3.99). When I asked the server about the charges, she suddenly acted like she didn’t understand English, even though she understood us perfectly when we ordered our food. I questioned why the water was $24 when most restaurants provide it for free and why we were charged for chips, which should also be free. Unfortunately, I didn’t take a picture of the handwritten, made-up numbers because I was too livid to think straight. Our bill should have been at most $80-$100 with tip and taxes, but we were overcharged by $122. The server refused to escalate the issue to her manager and played the sympathy card, saying if we didn’t pay, she would have to cover it. I don’t recommend this place, and this will be my first and last time here. This is my honest review and rarely do I ever post a negative review for any establishment but this was overreaching of $122 extra for BS prices. Please don’t cheat your customers, especially if you want future returning customers who don’t mind paying more for food, service, and entertainment.
Awesome food!!! Food was great. But here’s the kicker…
(1) be PREPARED to pay between $3-$5 for bottled water…depending on which waiter you speak to. The whole time we were getting refills, we were being charged. It would have been great to have being charged for what is usually complimentary communicated to us. (2) Music is blaring. Trying to hold a conversation through that was terrible. (3) We were also charged for chips and salsa that they voluntarily brought out to us! (4) When it came time to pay, we were overcharged a little over $60 for gratuity between 6 people. For a total of 8 tacos ($3-$5 each), a fajita plate , aguachiles, Jamaica drink, and 2 margaritas…the math wasn’t mathing.
Ooooooo and good luck trying to get an understanding why you were charged so much. We started off speaking perfect English to one another to “mi no habla inglés” at the end of the night.
Great food, TERRIBLE service, and a lot of hidden fees. Thanks, but no thanks!
