There is nothing more satisfying than randomly stumbling across a gem of a restaurant. That is what we found tonight in the Lake Marian restaurant. We were driving back north from South Florida, and when we started discussing dinner, I stated I was in the mood for good home-cooked fried chicken and biscuits. My wife began searching and found this restaurant, so we detoured in to check it out. It was a quaint little place, which has apparently opened under new management after being closed for 15 years. The menu was filled with good southern home cooking favorites (liver, chicken gizzards, pork chops, etc) and the sides you would expect. Our meals were delicious and sizable. The fried chicken was excellent, as were the mashed potatoes and green beans. The absolute star for me, however, were truly exceptional biscuits! The owner served as our waitress for the evening, and we greatly enjoyed her hospitality and conversation, as well as a playlist which had us humming along all night. The western-themed decor is neat, and the restaurant was absolutely spotless (an added bonus when we find an establishment that can boast that). This felt more like a family meal than an evening out, and though a good drive from where we live, will be a “must” whenever we pass nearby. Highly recommend a stop for a great home-cooking experience!

Seems like the hours change, probably due to seasons and staffing. Just be aware. Google Maps shows open 24 hours, I’m not sure why. I posted a pic of the hours as of December 2025. Subject to change, I’m sure.

Best place to eat this side of the Florida Turnpike!! OMG Swamp Cabbage was my favorite. By the bowl is a huge serving. Fried chicken, fried catfish and fried pork chops were our group’s entrees. If you leave there hungry, that’s your own fault. Not to mention the coconut cake and the chocolate & peanut butter mousse to die for. Right off Hwy 441, 4 miles down Canoe Road on the left. You can’t miss it. A hunter’s paradise. ♥️

Missy recently reopened the restaurant, so some of the older negative reviews do not apply. You will get a fine home style meal, with a little bit of love added to the food. You should stop by and give this one a chance!
