We ordered the Korean fried chicken, the pork belly bowl, the bulgogi sando, and the strawberry cheesecake. The fried chicken was supposedly soy garlic but it was just soy and very soggy. I was especially disappointed because Korean fried chicken is known for retaining its crispiness, but there was none.
The pork belly bowl had no flavor. I added all of the kimchi we were given (which wasn’t much) but it barely made a difference. The pork belly was also not cooked properly.
The bulgogi sando was the worst of all of them. The fries and sandwich came so cold that we had to ask for a new one (which wasn’t something we do). But in all honesty, we didn’t want another one. The sandwich was on a store bought hotdog bun, and it was also very bland. The only flavor you got was sweet. Granted, the fries, once we received them hot, were what you want in McDonald’s fries, but I don’t really go to a Korean restaurant for fries.
The only saving grace was the strawberry cheesecake. It was delicious. The texture was soft and light, had the perfect amount of strawberry, and wasn’t overly sweet. The one downside was that the chocolate sauce on top was clearly Hershey’s chocolate syrup.
Overall, I was really disappointed with our experience at Bori. I’m not really sure I’d spend my money here again (the prices don’t justify the quality of food we received). Also, getting sick after seeing that the food had been left out because of its temperature made me not want to risk my health for underwhelming food.
There’s a little karaoke room in the front that had very joyful singing coming out of it! Honestly great vibe.
– charging $ for Kimchi is very unusual
– kimchi pancake was soggy, not sliced. Dipping sauce was bland
– pizza was way too cheesy; underbaked; skimpy bulgogi topping
– dakgangjeong chicken coating was “tough” rather than “crispy”. Pieces were so small causing the inside to be overcooked and dry.
– iron pan pork was lukewarm; pork pieces were small / indistinguishable. Mysteriously soupy/oily! Poor value for money.
– tteokbokki was bland and the rice cakes and veg were sliced so thin that there was no textural variety throughout the dish.
Service:
– server was very nice
– tablet menus (always tacky / red flag) were dirty; one person at the table had a different version loaded with incorrect photos and missing some menu items. Clunky UI
– food took a long time to come out
– they ran out of small plates right when our large sharing entrees came outs so we awkwardly picked at it for 10 min while waiting.
Atmosphere:
– obviously a very budget conscious renovation of the underutilized upstairs portion of jolly pumpkin. Not much thought put into brand, theme, lighting, or decor.
– the bathrooms had a weird blue light (men’s) or red light (women’s) which transformed the preexisting run-down bathrooms from icky to seedy
if u want authentic Korean food, go to Rich JC
if u need to hangover meal on sundays, go to Kangs
if u want variety go to Tomokun
if u want Korean fusion, go to azalea / Miss Kim
if ur in the building, go straight into Jolly pumpkin
– they messed up the order
– table was wobbly and also cheap table
– ppl who came and ordered later than us got their food first
– didn’t get the food for 40+ minutes even the appetizers.
– small plates and large plates all came out at the same time it was overwhelming to eat
-idk as soon as i sat down i regretted not going to jolly pumpkin
– no wait time as expected
[dakgangjeong]
it seems like this is the most popular item on the menu. if u want korean fried chicken, go to hola seoul.. it tastes good but it tastes like frozen food
heated up. overcooked and too salty
[PIZZA]
i do not understand why they add barbecue sauce to a bulgogi pizza????? it was so bad. it was terrible. there are not much toppings on it either. it’s a tortilla and diabolical concoction with ingredients you can make it @ home. please don’t waste $23 on this
[iron pan]
Oil sloshing in the POT. cheese was cheap quality. do not waste $3 for cheese lol.
[taco]
so dry and flavorless.
[Kimbap/김밥]
It has WAY too much rice in it
