I would rate 0 stars if i could. The chicken feels and tastes like it was cooked a week ago and reheated. It is a strange, brown color and dry instead of a light-brown, juicy chicken. I thought maybe i had just taken a bad bite, but after eating half of the plate, i was left more underwhelmed with each bite. same thing goes for the rice. it looks like it was made last week and thrown on the stove to reheat it, and probably added more soy sauce. despite its dark color, it tastes extremely bland and just out-right not very good. by this point you’re probably thinking they must have at least one good thing on the menu. nope. dont come here. i also ordered fried pork wontons and what i got was giant fried pieces of dough with a tiny pork bite in each one.

There is an untold history about this restaurant.
The Chop Suey House was opened by Clarence Adams in 1972. Clarence attended the Korean War and was one of the 21 American PoWs who refused the repatriation and went to China in 1954.
He went to college in China, got a job, married with a Chinese girl, and raised a family. In 1966, with the burst of the Cultural Revolution, Clarence no longer felt safe and went to Hongkong and came back to the United States with the help from the US consulate at Hongkong.
Clarence passed away in 1999 and his family sold the restaurants soon after. However I still found those stories cool that the streams of historical events converged and still flows till today.

Order was incorrect on several items. When I called to express my concern the person wanted to tell me I ordered what she gave though it was an item I never would have order and a side order was wrong in size also. Was told I could bring order back, but what I wanted would cost extra even though the error was theirs and to bring it back would entail me driving 30 miles round trip!

First time and the food was ok. The meat was a little tuff but manageable. I love how they give you alot of food so your money is well spent. I got the mixed fried rice with no shrimp. The rice itself was not over cooked but the meat could’ve been better. Two people can eat off one plate so be prepared. It comes with everything in it so you dont have to ask for extra. My hubby loves this place tho so his review will be different. Me, i may go back lol

Came in tonight 7/25/2025 to get a 6 pc fried shrimp and sweet sour chicken with egg roll. The mother was not there tonight. Younger lady was there and I picked up the food and got home and the fried shrimp was cold! COLD! The sweet sour chicken was HARD and COLD! I called to let them know and a young man said I maybe waited to late to get the food? HELL NO, the food was not done! Don’t blame nothing on me. OLD FOOD!

This little shop, nestled in the heart of Memphis is a hidden gem. They don’t have tables to eat at, so you have to get it to go, but the food is the best Asian food I’ve had in Memphis. Parking is limited and it’s not the easiest place to get in and out of, but honestly in my opinion, it’s worth the challenge.
