Reviews
We discovered this restaurant while making a lunch break during a road trip, and it turned out to be an excellent surprise.
We started with a small appetizer of pumpkin soup with bacon, which was very flavorful and well seasoned. As a starter, we shared a mix of seaweed and black olives served with toasted bread. While the bread was slightly too toasted for my taste, the seaweed and olives themselves were delicious, full of flavor, and prepared using organic ingredients.
For the main courses, we tried two very different dishes, both well executed. The lobster burger, served in a squid-ink bun, was particularly successful: the sauce enhanced the lobster nicely, and generous chunks of lobster meat were served, which is always appreciated. We also had a choucroute with five different types of meat and sausages. It was well balanced, focused on potatoes and proteins, with relatively little added fat, making it surprisingly digestible while still remaining a true choucroute.
With the coffee, we were pleasantly surprised to receive homemade madeleines on the house — served warm, crispy on the outside and soft inside, absolutely delicious. A lovely touch that really rounded off the meal.
The service was friendly and efficient throughout, and the décor deserves a mention as well, with several beautiful artworks, including a quotation from Marcel Proust about madeleines — a fitting reference given what we were served.
Overall, this is a restaurant I can warmly recommend to anyone living around Basel or simply passing through the area. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food and the overall experience.
The food was really good! We will definitely give another chance.
(PS)After our third visit, we decided not to come back again. The service was nice and okay, but unfortunately the food wasn’t very good this time. Especially the three desserts we ordered — they were disappointing. Maybe it was just an off night, but based on our experience, we won’t be returning.
Waited almost an hour for a starter, which made me wonder if the chef had wandered off to forage the mushrooms himself and gotten lost in the woods. Reminded the staff 3 times- apparently invisibility is included in the 190‑euro price tag.
Meanwhile, the table next to us- who arrived later – got served first. I assume they had paid for the premium timeline where physics and fairness still apply. We didn’t even get an apology, just the quiet hum of our souls leaving our bodies.
The mushroom starter was the only thing with a pulse. The main’s vegetables were in the final stages of giving up on life. And the peach dessert… I’ve had existential crises more enjoyable.
We were seated at a table near the bar and were lucky to watch the delicious dishes being prepared as there is an open kitchen.
The food was extremely tasty, prepared with desire, decorated with style.
I liked that there are several dishes for vegans and I don’t have to have dinner only with salad or potatoes.
The menu offers a wide variety of wines.
The staff is very kind, and even though we don’t speak French we managed to understand each other :).
They have a large choice of nice wine with good advice to help you choose.
The decoration of the restaurant is very well done.
For our first time in this restaurant we tried the discovery menu and it was amazing all the dishes were great.
We will come back again.
