This place is half of a gas station convenience store, run by a solo chef-owner. We had some ABSOLUTELY INSANE tacos here. First – the portions are huge. You get 3 tacos in an order, which is enough for 2 normal people. We got 2 orders, and gorged. The tacos have cheese melted and browned in the shells, and are full of fresh veggies- onion, cilantro, tomatoes, and are served with plenty of limes. The salsa – a habanero mango was also amazing. These are among the best tacos I’ve had in Detroit. And Mario is a hell of a friendly guy.
By far the best tacos ever in Grosse Pointe/Jefferson Chalmers.
A must-try.

El Loco Panda is located at Alter and Mack, attached to the Marathon/WOW! gas station. It has a hole-in-the-wall vibe, but don’t judge a book by its cover. The owner and chef, MJ, also known as Panda, is half Lebanese, half Mexican, and is originally from Los Angeles. His multicultural background is reflected in the menu, which features a mix of American, Mexican, and Middle Eastern options.
I first discovered El Loco Panda while searching for local birria tacos online. These alone are worth coming here for. MJ uses pomegranate juice in his recipe, which is a unique touch. I’ve also had the chicken and steak tacos, as well as the quesadillas. Between the two meats, I preferred the steak for both. The tacos come topped with lettuce and tomato, but I recommend ordering them without. The smash burger is another standout menu item. For this style of burger, the patties are on the larger side. Compared to its nearby competitors, El Loco Panda is one of the better spots to grab a burger.
In conclusion, El Loco Panda excels in convenience and variety. The food is simple, but well above average. MJ’s affable personality and passion for his craft add to the overall experience.

I can honestly say I wasn’t expecting much. Its a burger from a gas station. But let me tell you, it was almost a religious experience. I took the first bite of the simple smash burger and I didnt process what it was I was eat. The second bite, I had to set the burger down to appreciate what was going on. The bread was warm the meat was salty and spicy and hit the umami sweet spot. The smash burger had the crunchy edges but still had that firm meat bite. It was easily the best burger ive had in the last 15 years.

This is not a genuine Mexican restaurant/takeaway. The premises are dirty, poorly presented, not as pictured on the internet and is part of a general grocery store in a gas station.
I wasted my time driving there, looked inside at the burnt dirty cooking area and left immediately.

A little hole in the wall spot located in a gas station but, the food is really good. I stopped in and got the steak burrito and it was cooked to perfection. The portion are really big so you get your money’s worth. The burrito and ingredients tasted great. Definitely a great spot. I will be coming back.
