We had a large group for a birthday party. The server was very friendly and patient. The food came out quickly and everything was delicious! The injera bread is slightly sour because it is fermented – not everyone liked it but that’s how it’s supposed to be. My son and I loved it – he is a fan of fermented foods. The food was very spicy, as in flavorful, but not hot. The platter was great to try everything – but when it says feeds 3 it’s more like 5! The portions are very generous. We will definitely be back.

I had the veggie combo plate. Very generous portions and the injera was super light and airy. Great flavors on everything. You can taste that the food is made with love from fresh ingredients. Don’t miss out on this spot!

This is a fantastic restaurant! I’m vegetarian and the veggie combo is to die for. Genuinely one of the best meals of my life. I simply need to make it here more. I eat here and it makes me so thankful to have them as an option in my city. It reminds of what Portland has the potential to be. Thank you so much for another amazing meal.

Seems that the move caused the food to suffer. No longer do I see an Eithiopian clientele. Asked for Harar, told ” we don’t have it” then heard another table ask and behold they got it. Flavors were off and the Tikal wasn’t stewed down. Would not return and wish they hadn’t changed.

Original review from February:
We ordered the quanta firfir, a dish of beef, mixed with enjera and all coated in a spicy red sauce. We also had the missir wot and it was made to order. Everything was tasty. Local clientele, very comfortable.

I’ve tried a few Ethiopian places in Portland, and Gebeta is at the top of my list. I’ve only had take-out (veggie platter) but it is soooo good. Everything tastes very fresh, injera is super light and tangy, and the portions are generous. Will definitely try eating in soon.

Food was amazing! Plentiful plate size. Customer service was friendly and attentive. I’ll definitely be returning. I ordered the meat combo and subbed out the spicy meat for a side veggies (greens).

The good: The food is AMAZING! I basically got the pick your 5 meat and 3 veggie platter. I wanted a little bit of everything since I never been to an Ethiopian Restaurant before. All off the portions were great. You can tell the food is marinated well. The salad was PERFECT! Full of flavor. The greens were a meal itself. The bread that’s around it taste good with food. The Ethiopian beer was some of the best I’ve had! It’s definitely a must try.

Went around 8pm and there were a couple of tables finishing up.
We started with the lentil sambusa, then got the Veggie combo and the Gebeta Special. Everything was perfectly spiced, and the salad was also super good, albeit simple.
The enjera was also on point! Highly recommend!!

Vegetarian Food Review: Food was nice. Ordered the vegetarian platter. The customer service is excellent and it’s an unassuming warm and welcoming space to hang out with friends if you want to. Simple and chill. (You almost can’t see it but it’s on the ground floor of a building next to sunbelt rentals)

Think I just found my favorite Ethiopian place in Portland. Generous portions at affordable price and everything was delicious.

Everything I tried was vegetarian. The lentil sambusas were so flavorfully simple and the lentil injera appetizer was super delicious.

And all the sides in the veggie combo were delicious, even the collard greens, which other restaurants normally make flavorless.

Will definitely be back!
