Reviews
We had dinner by the bay — dining right beside the water with such a beautiful outlook truly elevates the whole experience.
For food, we ordered the seafood platter (perfect for two to share) and the fish of the day, which happened to be snapper. The snapper was nicely cooked and enjoyable, though it didn’t quite stand out as a showstopper. The seafood platter, however, was the highlight. While fresh oysters aren’t quite to my taste, the mussels, calamari, and prawns were absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared.
The tomato-rich mussel sauce was especially impressive, and the bread and pita were perfect for soaking up every last bit.
We visited Gusto Restaurant in November 2025 whilst in Taranaki for the Garden Festival. It is located at the Port of Taranaki so there are beautiful Harbour views and stunning sunsets from most tables.
The staff were very friendly and happy to take photos for us which was really appreciated.
Our meals were outstanding! Packed with so much flavour and it was difficult to make a decision. We both chose the pork belly for the main meal. Yummy!!
My dessert was Sticky Date Pudding and my friend had the Creme Brulee. Neither of us could fault anything.
This is a Restaurant that I would love to return to if visiting New Plymouth again. Highly recommended for top service and excellent food.

We’re visiting from Australia and spending time family that live here, and chose Gusto for a lunch date it was absolutely perfect.
We had the open sandwich with grilled chicken breast on toasted garlic ciabatta, topped with caramelised balsamic onion relish, camembert and hollandaise, served with a fresh Gusto salad and crunchy kumara thins and it was absolutely delicious. The flavours were beautifully balanced, generous in portion, and presented so well.
We also enjoyed the salad of the day, which was fresh, light and perfectly complemented the richness of the open sandwich.
To drink, we had a Veuve Du Vernay Brut and cider on tap both were perfectly chilled and a great pairing for a relaxed lunch.
Everything from the food to the atmosphere and service felt thoughtful and welcoming. A wonderful spot for a relaxed lunch date we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town. Highly recommend.
