Very interesting place. Diner-style Mexican joint. I grabbed a prawn burrito, and it was humongous. Although maybe not my favourite combination, as it turned out.
Washed it down with Modelo Negra, which is my favourite beer when I am visiting LA. This time though the waitress Lorena brought it with a lime, which I have never seen before (!). And it works amazingly well! I ordered a 2nd bottle, and it’s still on the table. Gonna enjoy it (!) when I’m done with this.
ATM I am the only customer, it’s Sunday, maybe that is why. Some ladies laugh histerically in the backround. The atmosphere is great. Something tells me it’s even better when the place is full.
Now onto that Modelo Negra…

I used to come to this place because the food is above average, nothing extraordinary, but always flavorful and comforting. I’ve tried several dishes over time, including the caldo de camarón, menudo, and the carne asada plate, and they’ve all been consistently good. The portions are fair, the seasoning is on point, and the kitchen clearly puts effort into their dishes. However, the service has become a major downside. The server who usually attends me consistently displays an unpleasant attitude. It feels as though the more you order or the more questions you ask, the more annoyed she becomes. Basic things like greeting customers, checking in, or simply acknowledging you seem like an inconvenience to her. I completely understand if the restaurant is short-staffed or going through a busy rush I’ve worked in customer service before, so I get it. But even during slower hours, the same behavior continues. I’m not asking for anything beyond the basics of customer service. I’m paying for my food and supporting the business; the least I expect is a respectful and welcoming attitude. It’s disappointing because the food has the potential to keep me coming back, but the service makes the overall experience less enjoyable. Good food deserves equally good service.

I went to have mariscos with the family and ended up at Candilejas. The place was lit. The owner came out to say hello to us as soon as we got there. The mesera was super nice and very efficient when she took out orders. The food was amazingly spicy and full of flavor. Service was on point and the vibe was good. Stop by if you leave nearby or are a local in the area. You won’t be disappointed.

It was date-nite for my wife and I, so we decided to try a new place. We stopped at Candilejas to give it a try, and we were pleasantly surprised. You wouldn’t give the building much importance from the outside, and it’s sort of in a funny area for a restaurant. When I entered, I got the family-owned restaurant vibe…small, simple, spartan. The server that helped us was very polite and explained some of the dishes we had questions about. In the end, we ended up getting the “Torre” and the Ceviche de camarones”, they were both awesome, super tender, and fresh-tasting. We had to leave early to pick up my son so we didn’t finish the “Torre”. You should definitely try this place if you like mariscos! (Seafood)

If you are in the area and want great tasting Mexican food, I highly recommend Candilejas! I wasn’t sure what to expect as this was my first time visiting and hadn’t heard of this restaurant. The service was great and the food was delicious. I had the campechana and a michelada. I couldn’t stop eating the chips and salsa as the chips came out nice and warm each time. I definitely plan to stop by again.

Enjoyed the Camarones Fajitas. They were generous with the shrimp. The staff was nice. The random mariachi music from the jukebox adds to the unique atmosphere.

I ordered the green chicken enchiladas plate, they were pretty good as the rice and beans were. What sold me was the chips and salsa, so delicious and authentic ( has a nice little kick). The restroom was extremely clean and the staff very friendly and courteous. I will definitely recommend it.
