We visited Forty Niner Waikiki for breakfast and unfortunately it was just okay.

The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t anything memorable either. Overall, the experience felt pretty average and didn’t stand out compared to other breakfast spots in Waikiki.

Personally, I wouldn’t revisit, as there are many other places nearby that offer a better overall experience.

A true taste of old Hawaiʻi! Established in 1947, this classic café serves nostalgic island comfort food. We shared the Forty Niner Loco Moco—hearty, flavorful, and exactly what you’d hope for from a local favorite cafe!

this place was absolutely goated during our stay at the island colony. the pancakes are superb, come steaming hot right off the griddle, and were impeccable.

we ordered the ube pancakes the first day. i was surprised to see that the pancakes were not ube themselves, but were classic pancakes with ube sauce smothered on the top. this proved not to be an issue as the sauce was very concentrated in ube flavor, was thick, and divine. my only worry was that the syrup wasn’t going to be enough for the second pancake underneath the first, but there was just enough sauce to eat with the second pancake. i felt a little worried that extra sauce costs an additional cost, but thankfully we didn’t need to use it. the second pancake was also on the burnt, side, which thankfully didn’t ruin the meal itself due to the strength of the sauce, but it was noticeable!

the next day i ordered the haupia with banana and it was my partner’s favorite. the pancakes were cooked to perfection this time, and were steaming when we opened the box. the flavors were delicate, yet made themselves known, and came together in a not-too-sweet, rich and divine medley. everything about this pancake was amazing!

because we were staying upstairs, enjoying the hotcakes straight was an absolute privilege. i would definitely come back for some fresh hotcakes again.

I’m always a top student in a class so I do my homework and yes Loco Moco at Forty niner is one of suggestion that I saw so many reviews of local price eating in Waikiki. It is on a check list food that I must try. The food taste good. It was medium busy when I got the food, so I was able to find a seat with short time waiting.

I ordered pancakes, but about half of them were burnt. Should I still have to leave a tip?
I think the system of asking about tips and collecting the tip payment before the order is even placed is the problem.
I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

This spot is located in a lobby of a hotel/apartment complex and has a few tables and chairs to sit. It’s essentially outdoor seating and very casual.

There are a couple things that impressed me… one is the service and the second is the prices. Let’s start with food prices; Hawaii is known for being expensive, but this place has very reasonable pricing for its food. Most dishes are around the $10 range. As for the service, they are super friendly.

I ordered the Açaí Bowl which was good, not the best in Waikiki, but it’s good. It comes frozen, so all pre-made. The medium bowl was pretty small too. There’s a nut dust topping to it which was a good addition, providing some “crunch” with every bite. Again, it was good.

Anyways, the Forty Niner is a good option in Waikiki for breakfast!

Da Original Loco Moco, w/ fried rice & Uncle Boy Waffle with HAUPIA sauce on the side. No crumbs left. 12/10 recommend! We’re Oahu & Maui raised, living in the mainland for 10 years now. Came home for a funeral & this has been our best meal yet. Mahalo!

DO NOT COME HERE HORRIBLE FOOD AND STAFF. I came here 2/5/26 in the morning time around 9 and when I paid I tipped in advance thinking I’ll get good service and food but I was wrong. For starters the food was plain and did not have any flavor what so ever! The “French toast” I ordered was practically thick pancakes with no flavor. The eggs didn’t have salt and pepper on it and when i asked the old lady working in the front she said you get up and get your own condiments and I have no problem with that my problem was she was providing service and giving other guest different treatments. I also ordered a side of sausage and it was about 5 dollars and it was literally 4 small slices of hard unflavored sausages. SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND MONEY AND DO NOT COME HERE!!
