I’ve been a few times. The food is solid and it is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall spot you’d expect to find good food.

My rice definitely sat a bit too long and was dry in places and clumped up but it still tasted good. The refried beans taste fine but are oddly runny compared to what I’m used to. I have no complaints about my tacos and quesadilla, except that the lettuce in the quesadilla had gotten a bit soggy so it had a stringy texture, a minor issue.

My only real issue was that reviews often said it had good pricing. I got a chicken quesadilla and two street tacos (small, corn tortilla style). The bill came out to $23 (pick up order, so no table costs to include). That’s pretty steep for Mexican food in this area. Most places will get me a quesadilla for around 8ish, and street tacos are usually around 3 each. If you’re worried about taste, this is a good choice. If you want taste and price balanced, I’ve got a few other options I’d personally go to before this one. It’s a shame too, because this one is two minutes up the street from me.

To clarify, it isn’t unacceptable, but I find it steep enough to be priced out from comparable options.

Best Mexican food in the area. Exceptional, authentic, and inexpensive.
Truly a gem! I felt like I was back home in California again!

Update: I went back after several years and it is still as awesome as ever! They have done a lot of upgrades, fresh paint, larger menu. This spot is heads above anything else in the area! The pork tacos, guacamole, fried plantains, were awesome!

Love this place. Great food. Super nice people. It is our two sons favorite restaurant in town. Delicious, authentic Latin American cuisine. By far the best in town.

Wonderful little spot for your mexican food fix! Although the place is not that big, it makes up for it in tasty food! The place was nice and clean. Service was good. It was seat yourself and grab your own drink out of the cooler. I liked that idea. The food was the definite star! To start, just the chips and salsa were some of the best I have had. The burrito I had, with beef tongue as the meat, was excellent. I wish it would have come with some side like refried beans or something, but it was still good. My culinary companions both thought their meals were excellent. So glad we stopped and will definitely be going back. Do yourself a favor and give them a try!

Flor was my waitress the last few times I’ve been out to eat at this legendary restaurant. I’ve been going to “El Camino” for over a decade and hands down the environment and music choice is just as great as the food choice. You get the feeling like you’ve walked into an authentic restaurant in Latin America. The dish I have here is called “menudo” which for any out there who know what the dish is, well let’s just say. It’s one of those IYKYK type of ordeals. Also the combination of different types of tacos is great compared to competitors around town. I recommend eating here if you like great hospitality and even better food!

Update: as of 9/10 prices have gone up $.90 per dish and also are charging for chips and salsa. Not that big of a deal, it’s still worth it.

This was my first time trying El Camino and it’s an instant gem in my book.

The chips and salsa were a delicious start. I like their style – along with the salsa, which was mild, they brought out two hot sauces so you can build the spice level up to your liking. The flautas were on point! Beans and rice are on par with the competition with the bonus of a small salad with a tangy dressing. The papusas were very good as well. All in all it was a delicious
dinner, we’ll definitely be back

This restaurant has become my regular go to for authentic cuisine. I moved from the border and can attest to how truly authentic the tacos, burritos and guacamole are! I highly recommend trying out this restaurant before going to a Tex-Mex restaurant like most of us grew up with. Definitely try it soon, also the service is top notch, with a laid back atmosphere.

TL/DR: Excellent, authentic Mexican food. Different from most standard restaurants. Definitely worth a try.

Why My Rating?
The food: I’ve become accustomed to Mexican food that is the same no matter where. From the chips to the last bite, this food felt homemade and amazing.

Food: We’ve had five different entrees here and each one was knocked out of the park. Exceeded our expectations. Ingredients tasted fresh. Note, drinks are cans or bottles in the fridge. After you order, get yours. Jarritos and Rojita, glass bottle 7up and Coke are available along with standard sodas, tea, and water.

Location: Right off of Lakeside Dr. near Walden Pond Apartments. Very unassuming place so keep your eyes open. Two rooster statues at the door.

Staff: Very hospitable. Definitely has the feel of a family run restaurant in every positive way. We were well taken care of.

Atmosphere: This is a small restaurant. Large groups may feel crowded. There are two dining rooms attached to one another with primarily tables for four. There is one table for eight in the middle.

Cleanliness: The whole place was exceptionally clean.

Prices: As expected for quality Mexican food. It is not cheap but it is worth it.

This place used to be amazing. Food tastes great, but prices have gone way up – which I understand…every place has. But here the portions have gone down. $13.50 for four small tacos with BARELY a tablespoon of meat on them. Plus charging for chips and salsa = $45 for some ultra small tacos and two beers. Sad about it. Service is still great though.

My first time here. They did not disappoint! The chimichanga plate was amazing with small tender chunks of chicken and not your typical shredded stuff, which is good, but man, this was just so much better! Everyone was very courteous, fast service! Definitely going back!
