My daughter and I have always loved Abbots in Tega Cay — it’s been our go-to spot for peanut butter flurries. Unfortunately, our last two visits were very disappointing.
Last week, my daughter went with her grandparents and came home upset because the flurry didn’t have the peanut butter sauce or chunks on top like usual. I didn’t think much of it until we went together tonight, and the same thing happened.
We ordered two small peanut butter flurries (no whip), which came to nearly $20 with tip. When they were brought over, there was no whipped cream, no sauce, and no peanut butter chunks. When I asked about it, the staff member said the whip was on there (it clearly wasn’t), and that he wasn’t trained to add the peanut butter sauce or chunks. He even said the picture behind him was “just for show.” After I politely asked, he eventually added the sauce but seemed frustrated and confused about the chunks, saying, “What chunks?”
They also mentioned that there’s new management — and that it’s the reason their new card system is so slow. If this is the direction Abbots is going under new management, it’s really disappointing. We’ve always loved the quality and service, but if you’re giving less for the same (or higher) prices, you’re going to lose loyal customers like us.
We truly hope this can be addressed so Abbots can
stay the special place it’s always been for our family.
Sincerely,
Teri Dineen]
Once back in the car and heading home, the custard proved disappointing. While the texture was smooth and creamy, the flavor fell flat—surprisingly lacking in chocolate richness. I even gave it a second try to confirm Mrs. K.’s impression, but we ended up discarding most of it. Perhaps it was just an off batch. If I’m back in Rock Hill or Tega Cay, I might give Abbott’s another chance.
The vanilla custard was delectable. They only had three flavors available and when I messaged, I got a reply how it depends on if they need to clean machine between etc. I am totally okay with only three flavors in the AM since they are hand made daily. Just a tip that afternoon there may be more flavors available.
Cashier was friendly. Best custard I’ve had around town and will be sure to return. I definitely want to try one of their pies or cookie sandwiches!!
They seem to employee a lot of teenagers which is a really good thing! They are always friendly and very polite.
I think the prices are slightly higher than the other ice cream/custard restaurants in the area. I have enjoyed each of my visits here BUT there is nothing “special” here that would make me chose this restaurant over the other local places.
