I had a very disappointing experience at Chicago Curry House. I was browsing through a few places and this one looked interesting, so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge letdown.

We went for the lunch buffet since it seemed to be the popular choice, but out of all the dishes, only two or three were somewhat decent. The rest were really bad — probably some of the worst I’ve had. The place itself looks hygienic and calm, with a nice restaurant vibe, but the food quality completely ruined it.

The biryani rice was dried out and very hard to chew, the jeera rice was dripping with oil and tasted like leftovers, and the chicken tandoori wasn’t cooked properly — it was so hard it felt almost raw inside. The noodles looked really tempting at first, and I couldn’t wait to dig in — but that excitement didn’t last long once I tasted them. The only thing that saved the meal was the naan, which was soft and fresh.

Paying $16.99 for a single buffet and leaving completely unsatisfied was really frustrating. We went for lunch on a Monday afternoon, and I’m 200% sure most of the items were Sunday leftovers. Went in starving, came out really disappointed. Definitely not worth it.

We were at Southbank Park visiting the marina – a little bit out of the way. Google found us this restaurant a few blocks away. It’s a fairly small place tucked away in a corner – luckily we could smell the aroma from a block away. They had us at “lunch buffet” . It was uncrowded and quiet around noon. For a small restaurant the buffet choices were excellent. Everything was delicious. I loved the Mango Shake. My companions also loved the mango pudding but it was too sweet for my taste. I’m giving the restaurant 3 stars for atmosphere, not because I didn’t like it but it’s just a basic place, nothing fancy.

Everything from the food, the service, the atmosphere. All of it was TOP tier. Never seen such a peaceful, and beautifully decorated restaurant. The paintings, the tables and their arrangement all beautifully done. The owner is an amazing, sweet, and kind man. Running the business for 20 years, they work hard for sure! And back to the food? AMAZING!!!! I’m in absolute awe and will definitely come back anytime I’m in Chicago.

I didn’t wanna go because I thought the pictures from other reviews didn’t look very appetizing .. but my friends insisted and so we went for the buffet and it was really delicious. Plenty to choose from. That’s why I’m uploading pictures.

They had only buffet for lunch and no ala carte. However the buffet options are very good and unique. Many chat items and traditional veg curries were in the buffet. Mango pudding and rice kheer were yummy! Jeera rice with chana dal was very flavorful. Steamed Veg Momos are delicious. Restaurant ambience is cozy and comfortable.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Amazing Indian Lunch Buffet — Great Food, Warm Hospitality & Unbeatable Value!

Hidden Gem for a Quick & Delicious Indian Lunch Buffet

If you’re craving authentic Indian flavors with that warm, homely touch — this place is a must-try!
We stopped by for the lunch buffet, and it was absolutely worth it for just $17.

What We Tried:
• Appetizers: Bhelpuri, Pakora
• Main Course: Chow Mein, Chole Masala, Dal Makhni, Veg Biryani, Chicken Vindaloo, Goat Curry, Chicken Makhani
• Desserts: Mango Pudding, Gajar Halwa

Our Verdict:
• Bhelpuri & Pakora – Perfect starters! Crispy, flavorful, and light.
• Chow Mein – Average, can be skipped next time.
• Chicken Vindaloo – Spicy, bold, and absolutely delicious!
• Goat Curry – Authentic Nepali-style preparation, rich in flavor.
• Chicken Makhani – Creamy and comforting, just how it should be.
• Chole Masala & Dal Makhni – Both solid, homestyle curries.
• Gajar Halwa – Perfect sweetness with that classic buttery aroma.
• Mango Pudding – The highlight of the buffet! Refreshing, smooth, and heavenly. ✨

☕ Hospitality & Ambience:
The ambience is simple and no-frills, but the hospitality more than makes up for it. The owner was incredibly friendly — we got chatting and he even offered us two complimentary chais! That’s true Indian warmth right there. ❤️

Price: $17 for an all-you-can-eat buffet — unbeatable for the quality and variety!

✅ Final Thoughts:
A fantastic spot for a satisfying Indian buffet with authentic flavors, generous portions, and genuine hospitality.
Definitely coming back again!

Chicago Curry House is one of those places where you can immediately tell the kitchen knows exactly what it’s doing.
The curry is excellent — rich, deeply spiced, and balanced without being overwhelming. Every bite tastes intentional, not rushed or watered down. The sauces are bold and comforting at the same time, the kind that make you slow down and actually enjoy the meal instead of just eating to be full.
What really stood out to me, though, were the chickpeas. They’re cooked perfectly — soft, flavorful, and fully infused with the spices rather than just sitting in the sauce. They don’t feel like an afterthought or filler; they’re a highlight. If you like chickpea-based dishes, this place absolutely delivers.
The food feels hearty, satisfying, and made with care. Whether you’re already a fan of Indian cuisine or trying it more seriously for the first time, Chicago Curry House is the kind of spot that reminds you why curry is so loved in the first place.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants great curry and genuinely well-prepared vegetarian options — especially anything with chickpeas.

Tables are too closet each other. Service could be a lot better. The music so loud. No difference from my first time. The buffet is very good!
