La Maracucha Venezuelan Restaurant & Crêperie – DoorDash
Reviews
Portions: very generous. Both our orders were loaded and pieces would fall out from every bite.
Quality: We got the Patacon Maracucha and Aguita e’ Sapo Arepa. We waited a while before picking our order up. by the time we got home, it was still crispy. can’t wait to try them freshly made. Chicha was very thick and creamy, almost like a pudding consistency. Loved every sip. The only downside is that the straw is thin. I would definitely recommend the owner to get boba straws.
We’re so glad we got to try this spot. Would definitely come back again!
[PART 2: LIFE IS ABOUT EXPERIENCES AND YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS UP]
Literally, our entire encounter didn’t make sense. The atmosphere was quiet and awkward. It looked like an ice cream shop in the front and restaurant in the back kitchen…whenever the door opened.
I don’t know if the cashier was just confused in general or if she didn’t understand what was going on. We came up to the register and was greeted before being told she needed a moment. For the next ten minutes, she kept walking back and forth doing nothing until she started making a random drink order (apparently for patrons that were surprisingly dinning there – who knows how long they’d been waiting).
Eventually, she comes to the register to say she was ready to take our order – Disclaimer: we came for the flyer deal for homecoming weekend; It was a BOGO on the ice cream scoops. Anyway, she takes our order, which was complicated because they charge per 1 scoop of ice cream and charge you for the ice cream flavor, then have the nerve to measure the amount of the one scoop that is put in the cup (refer to image of receipt). The scoop size could have been pre-determined based on the cup sizes, not scoops – We did ask if we were getting the scoops on cones and she said yes, then pulled out cups.
Mind you, we just ordered and she is standing in front of the ice cream. She proceeds to walk to the kitchen and talk to whoever is in the back while telling us she is going to make our scoops in a minute….umm okay. It took her nearly 10 minutes to scoop the “promotional” ice cream scoop.
She starts telling me that she will make my ice cream because I paid for it… (I’m like…..”Yeah, I know”). For some strange reason she decides to walk away again and completely ignores me for nearly 20 minutes and starts cleaning tables instead of giving me the ice cream I paid for…huh?!
Eventually she walks back to the register and I ask her “Can I get my ice cream?”
On everything that is holy…this girl looked at me confused and asked what I was talking about.
I paused and said “You never gave me my ice cream,” and all of a sudden her eyes lit up because she remembered me as if I wasn’t watching her walk around the place instead of making my ice cream, while staring at me and my peoples the entire time.
She finally makes the order and apologizes.
I thanked her and left before my silence gave in to my tongue….Amen!
I started by ordering a cheese empanada Sub par for a $5 cheese empanada.
I then attempted to order the Pastelitos – they were out. How about the Cachapa? – out. Tequeños? – out. It was 12:00pm on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. What did they have to offer their guests to stay open for?
I understand Venezuela is having a hard time getting food to its citizens – but what is this “restaurant” excuse here in Gainesville?
The girl behind the counter was nice – I’ll give them that – but even her hospitality couldn’t save this place.
Shamefully dissappinting.
Normally I’m not one to complain about that, but when there are only 3-4 orders sent to the kitchen it should not take 45 minutes to receive a simple order. There was only me and a group of college kids who placed a food order.
For clarification my order was an order of tequenos and one empanada. A simple order I use to judge new places. 25 minutes after placing the order there was no update nor explanation for the lengthy wait. Most places I’ve been to can make this in 10-15 minutes at most depending on how long the fryer takes.
Due to the college kids also getting impatient, the kitchen accidentally messed up whose food is whose and I add to wait additional time to get my complete order.
I will say once I finally got the food everything was hot and super delicious. First time trying this style of latin food so I was very excited to try this place. But based on how long it took on a slow night, I would hate to come here hungry on a busy night. Maybe I’ll do call ahead next time.
Again I hate to bash a place on time of cooking but I don’t believe the wait was justified.
