Bombo – Visit Seattle
Reviews
The margherita pizza was oily and rubbery, with only a few small pieces of basil. The basil looked dark and wilted rather than fresh and bright green, which was disappointing for such a simple dish.
I sat at the bar but on this visit the service felt indifferent. The cloth napkin at my seat didn’t smell fresh, and when I asked for a paper napkin the bartender initially just pointed at the cloth one before eventually bringing one.
There was also no notice about the automatic 20% gratuity on the outside menu. The bar was cashless as well, but there was no signage about that either-I only found out when it was time to pay. Policies like these should be clearly communicated upfront. Clear signage about both would go a long way
toward avoiding surprises for customers.
I’m not against a 20% tip-in fact I’m usually happy to give that when the service warrants it. In this case it didn’t meet that expectation. Based on this visit, I wouldn’t return.
Unlike Tavolata they inform you clearly when you sit at the table about the automatic 20% service charge and they also have very tasty pizza.
The staff was very polite and helpful also!
Although the menu and atmosphere between Bombo and Tavolata is very similar if I had to choose I would prefer Bombo.
I went with a friend. We sat at a cute two person table on the patio. The staff did a great job of accommodating for my friend’s allergy. We shared an asparagus dip and house-made potato chip appetizer; it was incredibly delicious, but about half our chips were crumbs that were impossible to dip, but when we asked for more chips, the server had more brought out without quibbling.
I had the Caesar salad, which was huge and very fresh. I had a local cider from Yonder along with it. My friend had the chicken parmigiana, which was huge. She gave me a piece of her chicken, and it was very good.
I don’t think the food was worth what I paid for it, though. It’s tough in Seattle, with the boosted minimum wage, to price restaurant food reasonably. But I don’t think I’ll be going back here.
For $30, she ordered some non-seasoned, meatless, tasteless noodles dish.
For $30, I ordered a tasteless and burned lasagna. The optics of the lasagna are beautiful. It looks delicious.. Upon 1st bite, I can hear Dave Chappelle saying, “Gotcha Sucker!”
The Sangria is watered down, I’ve had better long Islands ice teas at Applebee’s. The wine was yuck! The water was warm… and to top it off, we had a 22% gratuity added. I’ll be contacting management for a refund.
To start, the service was lackluster; the employees didn’t seem like they wanted to be there and were not particularly attentive or welcoming. The overall atmosphere felt uninviting as a result.
As for the food, it was okay but nothing to write home about. The dishes were very greasy, and the flavor was just average. However, what really caught me off guard was the surprise gratuity charge. My meal of potato and meatballs went from around $25 to $32, and this extra fee wasn’t mentioned anywhere until I received the bill. It felt like an unfair surprise.
Overall, there are likely better Italian dining options out there that offer both better service and more transparency about their pricing.
My family and I recently tried Bombo Italian for the first time, and the experience was disappointing from start to finish. When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty with only one table seated, yet we stood at the entrance for about five minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We weren’t sure whether to seat ourselves or wait, which made for an awkward beginning.
We were told immediately that a 20% gratuity is automatically added, so no additional tip was needed. That would be fine if the service met the standard implied—but it didn’t.
As first-time visitors, we needed a moment with the menu. The server didn’t want to wait, took only our appetizer order, and walked off before we could finish. When he returned 10–15 minutes later, we had to repeat our entire order, since he hadn’t taken any of it. The whole interaction felt rushed and inattentive. Even when it came time to pay, if we weren’t ready that second, he would dash off again, making us wait all over again just to close out.
The food didn’t redeem the experience. The dishes were bland, and much of it looked and tasted packaged. The chips resembled store-bought kettle chips. The pasta sauce lacked depth and seasoning, and the mushroom sauce in particular looked and tasted like it came straight from a can rather than a kitchen. For the price point and the automatic gratuity, the quality simply wasn’t there.
While the ambience is nice, the combination of poor service and underwhelming food makes this a place we’re unlikely to return to. It was fine to try once, but not a spot we would recommend.
