Roper’s has always been my go-to place for an incredible filet. Perfectly seasoned. Perfectly cooked. But no longer. Hubby and I went there about 6 months ago with another couple. I ordered a filet, medium rare. What I received was a long, stringy piece of meat that bore no resemblance to a filet, cooked medium well to well done. I would have sent it back if we had not been there with friends.
Fast forward to LAST WEEK. I ordered a filet, medium rare. I was served another long stringy piece of overcooked meat which was barely warm. I called the waitress over, and she said she would have the cook “throw it back on the grill to warm it up.” I told her specifically I did NOT want it thrown back on the grill because it was already overcooked. She took my steak away and returned it, you got it, EVEN MORE OVERCOOKED. Please keep in mind that this is a $30 menu item. I asked for the manager and picked up the overcooked, stringy piece of meat I had been served. The manager told me that I had asked the server to put my steak back on the grill to warm it up. I told the manager I said no such thing. He then tried to convince me that that’s how their filets came – essentially opened up and butterflied — and offered to show me the box the filets came in. I said NO. A filet is a single cut of meat from the tenderloin and is a solid piece of beef with very little marbeling. I told the manager I would not pay for what I was served but would glady pay for a properly prepared filet. He took my steak away and came back about 20 minutes later with something that looked a little more like an actual filet. The manager then told me he was APPALLED when I showed him the ‘filet’ I had been served earlier so he decided to observe the cook when he prepared the replacement filet. The cook had been removing the filet from its packaging, then opening it up so it would cook more quickly flat on the grill. So, the manager essentially admitted he LIED TO ME when he tried to convince me the filet I had been served was perfect. The manager also most likely lied when he said the server told the cook to throw the overcooked filet back on the grill. SHAME ON YOUR MANAGER. SHAME ON ROPER’S. YOU JUST LOST A VERY GOOD CUSTOMER.
In case anyone cares, I left the server a really nice tip, even though she never returned to our table. I got the impression that she had been caught up between her manager’s LIES and the totally incompetent cook.

Me and the wife stop and had dinner on Friday the 21st of Nov. it was very busy with big parties. But that did not stop the waitress from taking care of us. Then the food was excellent that night. Thanks for the great night and service.

Good restaurant, southern style food. Large inside, friendly staff. Menu pics are from 07/13/22. The salad was delicious, and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t care much for salads so that is saying something!

Pulling up it was country as country could get, the inside was much larger and I live for the atmosphere here, it was so lively and free, the server QUICKLY got to telling us get a table even tho it was a seat yourself place, the food blew me away the meat pizza even at $20+ for a large got me to buy a second just from the amazing flavor, it was so fresh and the crush crispy, I CAN’T WAIT to come here again and try more !!!

The wife ordered fried chicken, they brought her grilled chicken and the server was adamant that’s what she ordered and would brook no discussion of replacement.
