Enjoyed our food here, shout out to Chef “Red” for recommending the blue catfish. The food was fresh and Red was so friendly and personable to everyone who came in on a busy Friday evening. If you’re thinking about dessert,’get the beignets w/ caramel (also Red’s recommendation)—so worth it!

As a southerner now living in northern Virginia, I have longed for fried catfish, hush puppies, and fried okra. These are not easy to find in NOVA, but finally my search has been rewarded. My husband and I had lunch today at the Skrimp Shack in Manassas for the first time, but I can guarantee that it won’t be the last time! I got the Big Cat(fish) basket with a side of Cole slaw, and my husband got the Skrimp basket with a side of hush puppies. We also ordered two “shareables”: fried pickles and fried okra. Everything was very good, and the okra and catfish were excellent! The shrimp, slaw, pickles, and hush puppies were quite good but they are not as rare as the okra and catfish, but everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. We got there right at 11:00, so we were probably their first customers of the day which meant there were only a couple of other people in the restaurant, so I have no idea how busy it gets toward lunchtime, but for when we went, the service was excellent and the food, freshly prepared, was hot and crispy (except for the slaw!!!). I am just happy to know there’s a place for okra, catfish, and (next time) collard greens. I’ll also mention that everything was very clean, including the restrooms. Loved it and will be back often!

We both devoured the hushpuppies. He loved the shrimp, and his po boy was HUGE!
The beignets are so good – light and airy. Our order was almost perfect – we ordered caramel sauce for the beignets, but got chocolate – but it was the only error and I love chocolate!

After the Sam’s Southern Eatery in Manassas shut down I decided to give this place a try, as the menu was very similar. I ordered the dinner sized “Big Cat Basket”, “Mac N’ Cheese”, and “Add 4 Skrimp”. The dinner portion is 3/4 LB Fried Fish, and is just the right size for a full stomach. The food took a long time to arrive by DoorDash, but it was worth it… (ordered at 7:34pm, didnt get in my hands until 9:01pm) The catfish was cut into small strips, which was new to me – Usually when I get catfish it’s 2-3 big thick and long pieces. The breading on the catfish didn’t pair well with the drinks.. For some reason it had a bitter after-taste. I tried to pair the meal with both Mtn Dew and Pepsi – both produced the same bitter taste. The shrimp was quite large, and decently breaded, thought I would have liked to have seen a thicker breading on it. The kind of breading they used on the shrimp basically just fell away like paper as soon as you picked them up. The Mac & Cheese was great – the only place I’ve had better was Panera. The cheese was in great supply, and was a nice creamy and vibrant texture and taste.
The only negative parts of this experience for me was the wait time (DoorDash at fault, not this place), the bitter after-taste on the breading, and that I got no utensils or napkins with my meal. All-in-all the meal was fantastic. I would say in the future I shall be returning.

There are three reasons I’m writing this review. The first is that I ordered the Nashville spicy chicken sandwich and was it ever so delicious despite the fact that the coleslaw was missing. The second reason was the cleanliness of the store. It was really clean and tidy which was impressive. The third and the best reason was the customer service. They close at 9 and I walked in at 8:55. I expect to be turned away but instead I was given one of the best welcomes I’ve ever received. I’ve worked in the food industry so I know folks are counting down the seconds to get home or move on with their lives. The gentleman that helped me had a Green Lantern tattoo and kept asking me if I wanted things like drinks or anything else. He told me that he waits for and expects people to come in last minute and it’s no reason to treat them any different than the first person of the day. I may not eat here frequently but it’s a blessing to have such a wonderful individual and kitchen staff at this location.

Craving some fried shrimp or fish? This place has it all and then some. The shrimps are battered and fried to perfection. The fries and crisp on the outside and a little soft on the inside, just the way I like them. Hush puppies are tiny, but delicious. The battered and fried flounder was moist and flavorful. The banana pudding was sweet, but not too sweet. And free refills in your drinks.

Let me preface by saying I grew up in AL so I’m very particular about my food (I need seasoning) and seafood especially (loving the taste of the Gulf and more than Old Bay) but SS was pleasantly surprisingly good even though I wish it had just a little more seasoning – even being a chain. We did the family bundle which is an awesome deal that gives you a gallon a sweet tea (that’s actually sweet), whiting or catfish, jumbo shrimp, fries and hush puppies. We chose the whiting. Everything was fried perfectly! It’s so hard to find fried seafood here that ain’t bready but this was perfect. We also tried the greens and Mac and cheese because why not?!?! While the greens were probably some of the best I’ve had in the DMV area, they were not a flavor I personally liked and the Mac n cheese was more of a boxed shell and white cheese sauce taste that I didn’t enjoy but I also prefer a good baked three cheese minimum macaroni (definitely including sharp). We also tried the banana pudding which I loved and my husband ate all of, citing it as the best he’s ever had outside of his mom’s and he’s super critical. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and for the price/value, you can’t lose. I’d definitely recommend SS Manassas.

My first time trying! I ordered online for take out. I got the spicy fried shrimp with ranch and a mac & cheese side. I was pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of the shrimp. Yummy. Definitely flavorful. The ranch wasn’t my favorite but I can try a different sauce another time. The mac & cheese is not southern style so, beware lol. The sweet tea is so good. The staff was nice and the environment was super cute and clean. I will be back again, but trying different sides!

We were so happy to see a Skrimp Shack pop up near us! The facility is beautiful and looks brand new! We were the first customers at 11AM and Larry greeted us with such excitement! He was friendly, personal, and so funny! He even surprised with a banana pudding to go. We always go with the family pack! It’s myself and my husband and we usually have some food to go. Can’t go wrong with the blackened Mahi and skrimpies. We can’t wait to come back! Thanks for being awesome Larry & Go Cowboys!!!
