The food was pretty damn good and authentic. The host and a couple servers seemed italiante blood. We had the create you own pasta which was convenient, easy and priced well. Tasted great. Also had one of the specials, The portobello mushroom creamy sauce ravioli. Not our favorite dish. Looked awesome but the ravioli wasn’t done, the cream became a thick peanut butter feel in your mouth and the mushroom taste became overwhelming. $32 for that one plate?? Wish they had mentioned the special was more expensive than a normal plate. We had to ask for refills and garlic bread. Complementary bread with our dish would have been nice. But all in all the food seemed good given the choice you make. The environment was welcoming without invading to your space. Server was cool but could have been a bit more attentive. Definitely worth a try

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Very authentic Italian menu. I created my own pasta dish with penne, pesto and chicken. Outstanding! Thanks to Alice, Carlo, and staff for a wonderful dinner and special evening out with family. A must when in Encinitas!

Quaint spot serving up pretty good food. Best bet for seating is outside. The service is mostly hit with some misses. Good selection of wines by the glass at reasonable prices. The house Chianti is especially good.
We ordered fried calamari 3.5/5, carbonara 4/5, pollo piccata 4/5, and cannolis 3.5/5.
Pretty solid, but a bit overrated.

I read somewhere to find out how good a restaurant is, the test is order the simplest item on the menu. In this case, the lasagna and pasta. Alice passed the test with flying colors. The pasta was cooked perfect tenderness. The lasagna had a great flavor. It was obvious that they did more than the usual layering. I feel they roasted the tomatoes before marking it into sauce
Same for their marinara, the roasted flavor of the tomatoes gave the marinara a richer flavor. But I could be wrong. Anyway it was beyond words. Got to go.
The staff were friendly, restaurant happy vibes, busy and feels like eating at home but way better food

This Italian restaurant is definitely 5 star. It was the best Italian food I’ve ever had. The owner and his children are all so nice. They were very attentive. Great portion sizes and not expensive. Very relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately we live about 2.5 hours away or it would be regular!

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinners. Both were delicious and the portions were very generous. The garlic bread was excellent, as was the tiramisu. They have a covered patio dining area. The staff was great.

We ate 4 dishes here:
The garlic bread, a pasta dish, salmon special, and tiramisu. All of them were delicious and perfectly cooked – the food plus the service was fantastic! I’m so glad we tried it out!!

Beautiful flavors! Had the pasta with spaghetti and vodka tomato sauce. The sauce exploded at each bite into the food! It’s a surprise when you have that first taste of that sauce. The meatball sandwich was spectacular! Towards the end the bread softened and soaked up all of the juices from that great meatball and the sauce. I had to use the rest of that bread too wipe up the remaining pasta sauce though. Please go here and give it a try.

We started going to Alice’s about two years ago, and I have to say it is the best Italian that we have had ever! Alice’s and Carlo are absolutely so kind and accommodating. Their food is always on point and never disappoints we highly recommend a date night out at their restaurant. I would recommend making a reservation because they can get pretty busy.

Excellent authentic northern Italian. The owner and family are from Milan. The dishes are excellent examples of Italian techniques using local ingredients. We shared the Polpette starters which was two good sized meatballs in marinara and three crostini. We could have used another crostini because we stopped up every vestige of the sauce, fantastic! The meatballs were very meaty with a firm sausage like texture, also fantastic. I had the Spaghetti Arrabbiatta with an Italian sausage. Spicy sauce, just enough, al dente pasta, very good sausage. My wife had the Caccio e Pepe and pronounced it excellent, not dry and very flavorful. We finished with the Cannoli, three ricotta filled, chocolate splashed, crispy cylinders of goodness. Too bad we live 45 miles away! But we will be back!
