Bakersfield on Mass Ave is one of my favorite spots in Indy! The tacos are consistently fresh and packed with flavor — simple ingredients done really well. The short rib and al pastor are always great choices.
For appetizers, the short rib queso is a must. It’s rich, flavorful, and perfect for sharing — definitely my go-to starter every time.
The vibe is fun and energetic without being overwhelming, making it perfect for a casual night out with friends or a relaxed date night. Service has always been friendly and efficient, even when it’s busy.
Definitely a go-to spot on Mass Ave!

The atmosphere and service were great! The food tasted good, too. Just be aware that the tacos are small, snack-sized. So if you’re very hungry, order more tacos than you would usually eat. For the price, I was thinking they would be regular size. I had a cranberry-ginger agua fresca to drink, which was delicious.

Every time we grab a bite here, we stick to the same tacos (the Baja shrimp are my favorite) and I always order the pineapple margarita. The staff is friendly and chatty—in a good way-but the main reason we keep coming back is the guacamole.

My first meal in Indianapolis could not have been better! I don’t even drink alcohol that much and Jen explained every drink in a way that was easy to understand and enjoy and the food was to DIE for. She recommended the guacamole and I was hesitant because I usually don’t like guac but it was so good, just the right amount of saltiness from the salt and freshness from the lime. The tacos I had were not a miss, definitely recommend asking for Jen and definitely recommend Bakersfield!

She has that rare ability to be warm and personable while also being incredibly on top of everything our table never waited for anything. I made a reservation. When I arrived I was seated in the corner. 15 min went by and no one had said anything to me. I walked to the front and was about to ask if this is how they conduct business. Anne noticed me and when I told her, she took me to her section and served me very promptly. She even gave me a shot for the initial delay. So my experience is a 5 star because one person made a difference! Gratitude

The margaritas were excellent. The salsa trio definitely had distinct flavors but not for those who like a chunkier consistency. The $4.50 tacos (we tried the al pastor, carnitas, fish and huitlacoche) had good flavor but were on the small size, more like appetizers…gone in 2 bites. Service was very pleasant but slightly slow.
