I’m a big fan of secret sandwich since I had it in West Virginia, so I was happy the franchise was opened in Richmond and every usually when go to Richmond I usually take around 5 filmore sand which and I loved it, but recently when I went the BREAD (previously bread quality was too good) was changed and the chips looked like they got it from other store and not made in store. Hope the quality is still same in West Virginia. I’m disappointed with Richmond store never going to visit again

We had the fried Chicken sandwich selections the Hoover and the Lafayette. The breading isn’t what I would expect from a specialty sandwich shop. Not crispy enough. The pickles are…. Idk… they’re sweet with a sour finish. Not my favorite. Well try again and sample a couple other selections.

The General Burger was good and the pickles were amazing. Brussel sprouts were perfect and the fries were also tasty. Crowded for lunch and they were working with two servers, which they let us know about upfront. Overall good experience.

I stopped by for lunch on a weekday and lucked out with timing—walked right in and grabbed a seat at the bar with ease. The dining area was only about a third full when I arrived, but by the time I left, the place had filled up significantly, with most tables occupied and the bar bustling.
Service at the bar was excellent. The bartender was cheerful, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. She offered helpful suggestions, and I went with one of her recommendations. The food arrived fairly quickly, which was a nice touch.
I ordered The Eisenhower sandwich and swapped the usual chips for fries. Unfortunately, the fries were lukewarm, which was disappointing, though the seasoning was spot-on. Had they been freshly fried, they would’ve been fantastic. The sandwich itself had great flavor when all the ingredients came together in a bite. However, the execution left much to be desired—the bread’s heel was too thin and quickly became soggy from the vinaigrette, causing the sandwich to fall apart. The lettuce looked carelessly placed and lacked freshness. Worst of all, I bit into a stemmed cherry pepper. I love those peppers, but biting into a stem is a major oversight—it’s inedible and off-putting.
With more attention to detail from the kitchen, this could’ve easily been a five-star experience. One final note, unrelated to the food: I noticed a sign in the window and read the manager’s response about it to a previous review referencing “basic human rights.” While I appreciated the front-of-house service, I believe restaurants should focus on delivering great food and hospitality. Messaging that highlights social divisions can feel out of place in a dining setting and risks detracting from the shared experience that good food and service are meant to foster.

I ordered the Truman. The first round of ‘crispy onion straws’ were cold, burnt, and chewy. Instead of bringing a new sandwich, I peeled the old ones off and a plate of more burnt onion straws were brought out. We had to ask for napkins- but still had no silverware and no refills of water.

I ordered the Lady Bird sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious—the flavors were well-balanced, and the ingredients tasted fresh.
The Lafayette sandwich was also a hit, packed with great flavors and perfectly cooked.
To top it off, the Parmesan fries were crispy, cheesy, and addictive.
Overall, a great spot for amazing sandwiches and a wonderful dining experience.

Our experience here wasn’t good. Food was ok other than the fact if I am paying $25 for a sandwich I would prefer the portion of chicken be bigger than a breakfast patty. The service is what really made me realize I won’t be back. We were a party of 3 and one person in the group wasn’t even offered anything to drink. We waited the whole time for them to be offered a drink and they never were. It wasn’t busy at all and the server was not attentive. She rushed off as soon as she finished speaking without giving us a chance to ask anything. When I tried to ask about the special she walked off before i could even finish my sentence. When I asked to sub fries for salad and was never told there was an upcharge. There were like 5 things they were out of and didnt even offer substitutions. If I am not given everything thats supposed to come with my order that I pay for but not even offered a replacement or a discount- how is that ok? I don’t not recommend at all.

Daughter and I just wanted a quick salad and fries, so this was the perfect spot around the corner from our hotel. There were no vegan options so I needed to have the kale salad Modified a little, things taken off it… And was charged for substitutions like tomato, onion, even switching out the dressing type incurred a small extra charge… other than that, very happy with our food, and the service was very friendly! Cozy lighting, relaxed vibe.

The atmosphere is cute but me and my partner were ignored most of the time by the server ( it was not busy) we were waiting for a long time just get another drink and by the time we caught there attention they ignored us and we waved again and were helped very passive aggressively ( we both are black) i never like to assume racist intent or ever leave reviews but me and my partner felt very unwelcomed and uncomfortable we were quiet and didn’t complain in person about anything just wanted to enjoy our lil date. they seemed to be nice to other customers present as well . on top of the food being pretty mid and everything was overpriced imo the least you can do is be nice and attentive instead we are talking for 30 mins wanting a drink and with empty plates on our table . i understand if it’s busy but it definitely wasn’t most the place was empty

I recently visited Secret Sandwich Society after hearing strong recommendations from a friend. Making the drive alone from Chesterfield in cold, rainy weather after dark, I had high expectations based on the recommendations.
Unfortunately, the experience did not meet those expectations.
I called ahead to place my order to ensure a smooth pickup. However, when I arrived, my food was not ready, and I waited several additional minutes for a single sandwich with chips and dip. While occasional delays are understandable, clearer communication and better coordination would have made the situation feel more professional.
When my order was finally handed to me, my lemonade was missing. After I inquired, I was told they were out of lemonade. I asked what sweet alternatives were available (as I do not drink tea) and ultimately requested a Shirley Temple. Because I had a long walk back to my car in the rain, I specifically asked for no ice to avoid dilution. The drink I received was only about half full, which was surprising and disappointing.
Unfortunately, the food itself did not redeem the service issues. I ordered the Eisenhower sandwich and found it underwhelming in both flavor and overall quality. Given how highly it had been recommended, this was especially disappointing.
Overall, the visit felt disorganized — from the delayed pickup to the missing and incomplete beverage — and the food did not justify the effort of making a special trip. I left disappointed and would not return based on this experience. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as there is clear potential for improvement.
