Just had a delicious meal.
We were a little unsure what to expect after reading reviews however everything we experienced exceeded our expectations.
Our waiter was very helpful describing the specials and making menu suggestions.
The fun started the minute we boarded the boat that took us to the restaurant.
I recommend giving them a try.

Arrived at 8pm on Friday for our reservation. Stepped into the bar and were immediately and rudely told to go to the restaurant, the bar was closed. The bar smelled bad anyway, so I guess that was fine. At the table we were given literature to read up on the “history” of the location and a long list of dead celebrities who had visited in the past.
We were told no one else the quality of “hearts of palm” salad that they do. It was ordered $20 and had no real taste. It was passed around the table of 6, but not finished.
I had the scallops which they “no longer pan sear,” so I chose broiled. They were overcooked and tough; I couldn’t eat them. The only sides offered were green beans w/ Parmesan butter sauce, but they were cold, and mashed potatoes or fries. The fried shrimp were fine, but not served hot. Hubs had the fried sampler platter which was delivered several minutes after everyone else’s meal, but it was served hot and he enjoyed it.
Just because the place is 97 years old, and used to have a good reputation, it did t live up to expectations that night. The little boat ride over was novel, but skip this place. Take a River Taxi to 15th street Fisheries, enjoy the food, the staff and the view.

So interesting. You could only get there by their boat accommodation which was an adventure in itself. The Captain was entertaining, the ride was pleasant & picturesque. Our first stop was the bar. It was so antiquated. The entrance doors reminded me of the doors on a phone booth…tight! Then we entered the restaurant which was exactly as described. The food was perfect! Service was excellent. The prices are comparable with the amazing atmosphere. Well worth it for a special occasion.

When here from Mother’s Day weekend celebrated with my parents, food was just as fresh as describe our server was knowledgeable about the menu apart from the host who seemed and taking it back because we did not have reservations however or wait was only for 25 minutes. I would definitely recommend here as the portions are good and the boat ride to the restaurant is also an added plus.

This is a unique old Florida experience. You have to take a boat to get there. The menu is limited with mostly fish. We all liked the crab cakes and the hearts of palm salad but the fish was ok at best. The key lime pie was clearly homemade and nice and tart. The prices are high for what you get.

We went on Sunday , Dec 21, 2025. The boat captain is very efficient and picked us up shortly after we parked. We were not able to make a reservation because there were only 2 of us, but they were able to sit us pretty quickly upon arriving at 5:30pm. We had Melissa as our server, she was very attentive and efficient. We started with a blackened fish appetizer the fish was super fresh and it came with a delicious aioli sauce. We then ordered the platter that came with fish, scallops, and shrimp. The scallops were the best part of the dish. We also ordered a mahi dinner and the fish was fantastic, super fresh! We ended with key lime pie . We really enjoyed the creamy tartness of the pie ! We recommend go as early as you can and it is definitely worth going!

Went as a walk in for a Saturday. Had about an hour wait but worth it! Delicious food and amazing staff who keep you entertained! Will advise others to always ask what’s in the dish though! I did not ask and sadly had a lactose intolerance flare up. So always ask so they can cater to you to avoid foods you can’t have!

Historical Bar and Restaurant. The bar is separate from the restaurant and has a bunch of memorabilia from over the years. Wooden floors and ceilings and a Cool vibe. Delicious Snapper that tasted like they just caught it and brought it into cook. Fresh salad and scrumptious rolls with butter. Great views of Intracoastal and Marina.

I am a local and have heard of this place for years. Online it says to please fill out a form to make reservations and if we don’t get a confirmation email, then to call after 5pm. We wait patiently all day, never receiving the email so we call at 5pm. Not getting into the restaurant due to reservations being full is not reason for a bad review. But what is a reason is the man answering the phones. My husband called and politely told him we were calling because the website said to call after 5pm if no email was received. According to him, the man on the phone asked when the request was made for and when he answered “tonight” was very rudely told “well then that’s why you didn’t receive an email, we aren’t taking anymore reservations.” Rather taken aback, my husband asks if we could try to make reservations for tomorrow evening and the guy just as rudely said “I don’t know yet.” And didn’t elaborate and proceeded to hang up on him. After my husband told me this, I couldn’t believe such an institution with solid reviews as this would treat someone that way, so I resolved to test it myself. I got the very same treatment and when I asked why he “didn’t know” if we could make a reservation for tomorrow, he said “we just aren’t taking anymore”. I asked for the man’s name and he hung up on me. Again, we live in one of the most beautiful places in the world with some of the most amazing food. I’m used to not getting into restaurants due to capacity, but being treated this way has ensured that I will never try to go to Cap’s Place again. There are plenty of Oceanside seafood restaurants near Ft. Lauderdale that welcome customers that I don’t feel the need to try this “rustic gem”.
