We recently dined at Fish Bones in St. Clair. The food itself was pretty good! we ordered a several sushi rolls and enjoyed them overall. The Sapporo was solid, as expected.
That said, the experience was definitely mixed. The sake was a bit overpriced for the portion size, which was disappointing. On top of that, the service was extremely slow. It took a long time to place our order, and once we did, our server wasn’t very attentive throughout the meal.
What made it more frustrating was the automatic 18% gratuity added to the bill. I don’t have an issue tipping at all, I’m happy to tip well for good service but when gratuity is guaranteed and the service doesn’t reflect that level of care, it leaves a bad impression. It felt like the attentiveness just wasn’t there.
There’s potential here because the food was decent, and the restaurant is really nice and spacious.

Michaela the hostess was so wonderful. Super welcoming and probably was the best part of our experience there. We really wanted her to be our server so we could keep talking. But either way perfect person to set the atmosphere!!

My daughter took me here on my birthday . The food was good but seems to be with much smaller portions. The waitress was decent. I’m not a fan of gratuity being already added, especially if it’s just a party of 2. I pretty much like deciding to do my own, especially for the amount being spent…I’ve been here another time with my friend, he ordered a burger, she came back with fries on the side, he questioned it, she said it comes with it. We get the bill, we were literally charged $22.00 for a burger, pretty much charged for the fries..Then I noticed a white couple leaving their tip on the table, didn’t order as much but, was wondering if only certain people have automatic gratuity added. The young couple didn’t seem like the type to tip if it was already in the bill… you have to be alert with this place. They seem to add when not ordered and charge you at the end. Overall, I would go again.. just be more aware of what’s going on..My friend and I came here one night, they had a descent band, was impressed but I noticed that there’s noticed that Service charges took over gratuity..still the same if you do a comparison with my previous receipt.

Dined in this weekend for Valentines, first time experience. Was beyond amazing! Was greeted by the most friendly host I ever met. Michaela made sure my experience was great from the time I walked in the door and was greeted by her till the time I left out the door. Service was great. Food beyond great. I have always loved Fishbones but I took exception to the waitress who took my order.
I ordered the seafood pasta and she said that the order came with soup I ask if I could have any soup and she said yes so I ordered the soup I desired. When the bill came I was charged $10 for the soup. When I took her about the discrepancy she said that it was deemed as an appetizer and I said to her that that’s not how she describe it.
After also receiving a 18% gratuity as well.
I’m never going back to the establishment again and the food didn’t hit right after the experience.

First time here the rolls with butter was delicious. My salmon salad was amazing and my Bahama Mama drink was good and strong. They even had a live band. Very nice place.

Traveled from Atlanta to visit the Motown Museum then decided here for dinner. Food, service, atmosphere was superb! Greeted at the door. It was a Sunday around 3:30pm. Miya was our server. Perfect! Didn’t wait long for our food. My drink was watered down. I give this place a 10/10. Gratuity was included but we didn’t mind!!!!!! Calamari, smoked wings, ribeye, crab stuffed shrimps……. Everything was tasty and it’s nice/comfy inside!!

Been here a few times but had an experience on Monday 10/20 that deserves a review. 1st, I had a sushi roll as an app and as always it was fresh and very good. For an entree I got the Prime Rib Po boy. It was very good as all the things I have gotten here before.
I wasn’t sure what beer to get and Lyz and Taylor the bartenders, who are awesome and always do a great job, gave me several samples. Ended up with a Labats and was rightfully shamed a little for it, after having several craft beer samples.
Now to the reason for this review. I had a small mishap with a crab cake, nothing major. I told Lyz about it, just for her information. Unbeknownst to me she informed a manager, not the reason I told her about it. James showed up and overly apologized and offered to make things right, which is not the reason why I told Lyz. The care and concern he showed over what to me was just a small thing really impressed me.
Fish Bones should be proud to have people like Lyz, the manager James, and the other very good and personable bartender, Taylor, as representatives for their organization.

My name is Richard Porchia and I was with the party of 9 on Saturday 3/24/2024. My waitress was amazing and very attentive and professional… she was also one of the most gorgeous ladies I’ve ever laid eyes on. The food was amazing and she kept our glasses filled. I requested a candle for my mom’s key lime pie and she was more than happy to oblige. Great place, Great Food, Great Atmosphere and one absolutely stunning waitress. I can’t wait to come back from Florida and experience this place again.
