This is one of the top ten Best Hispanic under rated restaurants in Houston. Real Authentic price is not crazy expensive and yes it’s all hand made you can taste it in every bite. On top of that the dessert tamales phenomenal. So soft yet goey inside with pieces of fruit. The masa was like nothing I’ve ever had it was an actual dessert. When you order a meal here you get a bowl of Frijoles before your meal. Yesterday two people under 30 bucks left happy and full.

Don’t search more. This is the place. Food is spectacular – authentic and made with attention to detail. Not your dried out chicken fajita tex mex spot. The handmade tortillas are worth the extra. Portions are equal to the cost. And the service is amazing. Ingrid and Jesus were very attentive with great recommendations. Highly recommend.

A no frills establishment with Absolutely the best experience for barbacoa and excellent authentic Mexican food. I dined for lunch on a Saturday and they had a band entertaining the guests with live Mexican music and songs. I thoroughly enjoyed the bacbacoa and the freshly made corn tortillas.
I have to say the service I received was exceptional. I was welcomed immediately as I walked in and chose my own table. My server was attentive and checked on me just at the right times.

This review will probably make no justice to El Hidalguense. If you like barbacoa/chivito this is the place. Authentic Hidalgo Mexico style barbacoa in Houston. The barbacoa/chivito was amazing so was the consome (broth). Let’s not forget handmade tortillas. The fajitas were amazing.

Everyone here is so nice! The food is also great! Good portions and the flavor is all there. Even can with a nice complimentary appetizer and dessert. Will be back!

El Hidalguense is a solid spot if you’re looking for authentic Mexican flavors, especially their Birria, which is absolutely delicious. The seasoning and tenderness of the meat are spot on, making it the highlight of the menu.
The karaoke setup adds a fun and lively vibe, but the volume can get a bit overwhelming while you’re eating. It would be great if they could lower it slightly during meals so guests can enjoy their food and still have conversations.
The atmosphere could use some upgrades to match the quality of the food. While it’s clean and welcoming, a few modern touches would go a long way in enhancing the dining experience. Also, the restrooms need attention—they could definitely use some improvements to ensure they meet the same standard as the rest of the establishment.
Overall, El Hidalguense delivers fantastic food and a fun vibe. With a few tweaks, it could become an even better destination for both locals and visitors.

Well, the service was awful. We sat down to order breakfast and the plate I ordered came with corn tortillas. This restaurant is known for their hand made corn tortillas so I asked if my dish included them. They said that they came with store bought tortillas and it would be an extra $3.99 for the hand made ones. Why not just include these fresh tortillas with each dish and adjust the price accordingly.

The food was authentic and seasoned well. Their cheese is amazingggg. The service was fast and kind. When we went there was live music which was great to experience in the morning. I wish the volume of the music was a little softer but it was nice to have.
