Dog friendly patio. Fantastic music. Great service! Great food. We stopped here several times and it was great each time. Definitely worth a visit. Try the taste of New Orleans a small sample of 4 of the most popular dishes

We happened upon the Market Cafe while exploring the French Market in New Orleans. We had reservations for dinner, so just wanted a light lunch to hold us over. We decided to share a bowl of jambalaya. It was so good we considered cancelling our reservation and getting another bowl!!!
The Hurricane was not lacking either, it really packed a punch. Would definitely go again!

Not a bad spot, just not a good spot. If you’re looking to hang out in the area and have some music and a beer, this is for you. The food is fine at best. I had the Taste of New Orleans which is the sampler dish they offer with gumbo, étouffée, rice and beans, and jambalaya. The étouffée and rice and beans were particularly bland and under spiced and had a runny consistency. The gumbo was also thin and the only flavor came from the onion and seafood. The jambalaya was the best of the bunch but was mushy in texture with the star being the sausage. In general this does place does not do justice to these dishes. The only issue with service is they only have a handful of wait staff taking care of so many people you really don’t get enough attention and wait times for things are long. Good staff otherwise!

There are tourist traps, and then there are tourists traps. This one? The worst kind. The kind that doesn’t just catch you—it studies your Yelp history, flatters your optimism, and then serves you a mocha so forgettable it could be a decoy in a CIA training exercise.
Let’s rewind. My wife and I, seekers of ambiance and occasional culinary redemption, wandered into Market Café with open hearts and low expectations. The latter proved prophetic. The first red flag? A gigantic outdoor TV broadcasting NFL like it was the Sistine Chapel of sports bars. I should’ve known then. Any place that outsources its soul to ESPN is not here to feed yours.
We ordered crawfish beignets, a mocha, and a Pepsi. The beignets arrived looking like they’d been deep-fried by someone who once read about seasoning in a dream. Texture: doughy. Flavor: elusive. The mocha? A warm brown shrug. And the Pepsi, flat, uninspired, spiritually vacant. But the ice? Oh, the ice. Cold, crunchy, and emotionally available. The kind of ice that deserves its own jazz solo.
Service was good, though. Our server was kind, attentive, and clearly trying to rescue the experience from the jaws of mediocrity. And of course, the company of my wife, gracious, radiant, and far more forgiving than I, was the true highlight. She found something redeeming in the mocha. She always does. She’s the kind of woman who can spot beauty in a beige wall and joy in a lukewarm beignet. I aspire to her palate and her patience.
But Market Café? It’s not a café. It’s a cautionary tale. A place where flavor takes a personal day and ambiance is outsourced to a flatscreen. Would I return? Only if the ice gets promoted to entrée. Or if my wife insists. And she might, she’s got a soft spot for underdogs and a talent for finding grace in the griddle.

Hats off to Emmett at The Market Café. He was holding a sign up bringing the people in as the Time Zone Band was playing some oldies but goodies. Emmett was a great server, the band was fabulous, and the food was delicious. The drinks were a bit weak for me but was not horrible. For an indoor and outdoor establishment, it was pretty clean. Thanks for a great time relaxing while enjoying Jackson Square and the French Market.

This is one of my go to spots whenever I visit Nola, but I always only come for the drinks and music! Paige at the bar today convinced me to try out the gumbo, and it’s indeed another go to for me whenever I visit again. Great service, drinks & food, and whoever’s playing always enhances the vibe. A must stop here right in the French market area!

This restaurant is right in the middle of NOLA next to the market. The live music is what makes you sit down and enjoy the atmosphere. The food was good and satisfying but nothing out of the ordinary.

The food was good & the atmosphere was phenomenal. But Lakeisha made it all come together. She was amazing. Her smile, her personality and her charm really made our day. She’s the reason we’ll be back. Thank you Lakeisha…you rock. Keep being the amazing person that you are we can’t wait to see you again. #HighlyRecommended

Honestly pleasantly surprised by this place. Figured it was risky to go somewhere in the middle of the French Market but we all liked our entrees. Salad was fresh and a decent size. Their poboy was well made and better than some of the more popular places I’ve tried. Lightly fried and not too heavy. I really liked the remoulade and they gave you a good amount of shrimp. Would recommend.
