Taqueria La Katrina is currently contending to be my favorite spot in Rockford. I was able to go during their 4 year celebration – which in of its self was extremely energetic and fun, and i felt really lucky to meet and talk to the staff and owners.

In terms of the food there – I just haven’t been anywhere that beats it, one of my favorite items I had there (unfortunately not pictured) was the simple steak taco! Their hand made corn tortillas really bring something else to the table in terms of taste and flavor profile. The barbacoa burrito and Quesabirria tacos were simply made perfectly and had extremely tasty and fresh ingredients. I’m a big fan of barbacoa, and this one exceeded expectations. Horchata was exceptional as well, being one of my favorite drinks – simply cannot go wrong with this one.

One other item of note would be the decor, which i normally don’t speak on. I absolutely loved the tables and chairs, super fun and colorful, really need more of this type of atmosphere!

The next time I plan to eat out, alone or with friends, I will be going here. Thank you to all the staff and the owners that made my experience so special.

Saddest elote of my whole life came w shredded cheese……???? Mainly water and a dream rather than elote. Food had no flavoring and was just lowkey depressing the inside was super cute. everything else was inspiration to never eat here again tho and highly overpriced honestly just hit up the Taco Bell.

Can’t say enough about how amazing this restaurant is! Me and my wife went for dinner there and it was fantastic. We started with the quesabirrias tacos they were fantastic the meat was so flavorful and tender and the consome was thicker than most other places and had bits of the meat still in it it just busted with flavor. My wife got the tostada dinner I tried a bite and it was great the steak was perfect and the cheese and crème fresh was perfect on it. It came with rice and beans and honestly that was the best rice I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I got the nick niko torta and it was great again the steak was perfect tender and juicy the bread was warm and buttery and it was huge! The owner was amazing super friendly and funny really adds to the already amazing atmosphere of the place. We split a tres leches cake and OMG it exceeded any expectations it was delicious. The owner also brought us out some samples of the different aqua frescos and they were all very good. I can honestly say everything we had there was the best we have ever had of those dishes. We will be back again and again that is for sure.

They didn’t greet us and we just finally sat ourselves, but the waitress was friendly and the food was great! Chili quiles with steak, chili rellenos and birria tacos were all great, guac was also great. Chips must be fried in house because they were fresh!. Will be going back

Food was so filling price was great. Salsa could have been chunkier and have a little more of a spice to it. I will definitely be coming back.

Went there about a week ago and asked for just 3 steak tacos, total came out to about 6 dollars for each set of 3 tacos I bought. Went there yesterday and tried getting the same thing, lady I talked too kept trying to pawn off the steak taco dinner which is 14 dollars for each meal, I had to explain multiple times that I did not want the dinner I just wanted the tacos, gave up and just took the dinner because I wasn’t gonna sit there and go back and forth about what I wanted, meat was really fatty and I sat outside for almost an hour waiting on my meal, wasn’t even hot when I got it, and me and my bf have had stomach issues since eating there. I would not recommend this place.

Posting about the weekend buffet that is absolutely amazing! The food is literally the best versions of celebration dishes that would be served at family parties. On both of my visits, I hit both Saturday (a little less crowded) and Sunday, each dish was perfectly prepared and the serving trays were kept filled.

Standouts include was melt-in-your-mouth tender Chicken Mole (chicken with a savory chocolate sauce), Red and Green Enchiladas, Flautas (rolled fried tortillas with a filling–they had potato, which I loved), Shrimp Fajitas, Chicken Tenga (shredded chicken in a spicy sauce), Tamales, Homemade Refried Beans, Mexican Rice, and my favorite dish of all, Chili Relleno (roasted poblano peppers with a melted cheese filling that is dipped in an egg batter and fried). I try to avoid eating meat, so that I was delighted to have so many vegetarian and chicken entrees to enjoy at a buffet, but if you’re into beef and pork, there were plenty of meat dishes to select from, as well.

The restaurant offers fresh homemade tortillas, a sure sign of a quality Mexican restaurant, for making tacos. Be sure to place an order for them with your wait person once you sit down (as they take a few minutes to prepare and you could be filling your plate and have tortillas ready for when you return). I like to place a small plate on top to keep the tortillas warm.

As a previous person noted, there may be a toothpick holding the cheese stuffing within the Chili Relleno, however, you should be slicing the peppers into bite-size pieces and easily remove any toothpicks before eating them on a tortilla with beans and salsa. Salsas were mild to medium, be sure to test them, first, to make sure that you can tolerate the heat as that can vary.

Just a wonderful selection of dishes along with soup and dessert options. The atmosphere was a blast, changing seasonal decor (my pics are from Valentine’s), brightly colored walls and super comfortable booths and tables. Festive and fun!

I was so excited to finally going to this establishment and try the buffet ( it’s the only way to try some of the dishes they offer.) we drove from out of town (45+ minutes ). Unfortunately everything we tried menudo, pozolé, red & green enchiladas, chicken & pork tamales were tasteless, very bland. Glad we went to try before we brought our extended family. Service was ok..servers were more attentive to the male patrons. It was a disappointment, will definitely not return nor recommend. For the money we spent $50+ was definitely not worth it. The fresh homemade corn tortillas were delicious but that’s it. If I could give 0 stars I most definitely would. Good thing we had too stop at Sam’s cause we both got diarrhea. Most definitely will not go back!!

High quality food with great service. The weekend buffet had incredible items, authentic Mexican entrees. I am pretty picky about tamales, these were awesome! Large place with lots of staff. The weekend buffet is in my picture and there is another area of the buffet with soups, desserts, fresh fruit and baked goods. This place is a marvelous. Buffet was $18.99. Well worth it!
