The doors were opened in a timely manner and we were greeted promptly by pleasant, friendly young women, who ended up being our servers as well. Coffee and water arrived quickly, which we expect at a sit-down restaurant, but the turnaround on our food order bordered on a world’s record! Both mornings, our food arrived no later than 10 minutes after we ordered, which was very much appreciated because we came to Cody for work and were hungry! The first morning, I ordered the country Benedict, which consisted of their delicious, moist house-made biscuits, topped with sausage patties, sunny-side up eggs and country gravy. Potatoes come with as well, but I found those to be slightly oily. The portions were so generous I ended up taking a to-go box. The next morning, I had the pork green Chile omelet. That one I polished off no problem, it was SO good! The Chile Verde tasted home-made.
The restaurant itself looks quite new with a well-kept lawn and flower beds outside. The interior dining areas were spotlessly clean. I particularly liked that they put the napkins in a dispenser on the tables so you could take as many as you needed. The decor was typical Western kitsch – hey, it’s Cody, WY, the rodeo capitol of the state! – with cowhide upholstery on the booth seats. They even had a replica of an old stagecoach in one of the dining areas. Unfortunately, I forgot to snap a pic of that.
Prices were OK, about what you’d expect in a tourist town. And like I said, it would have been nice if they had opened earlier, but 7:00 am seems to be the standard opening time for establishments that serve breakfast. But if you’re looking for a good place for breakfast or lunch, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Rooster’s Cafe. Next time we visit Cody, we’d definitely go back.
My family came in, to our embarrassment, only a half our before closing. We were very well taken care of, the staff was very kind and so was the owner. All around, restaurant staff definitely work as a team and appear as hard dedicated people. They are also very kind and accommodating to children!
The chicken fried steak was good but could have used a little more gravy. However, it was fork tender and very flavorful. The gravy seemed to be made from scratch.
I was disappointed about there not being an option for hash browns but their ‘signature’ potatoes were adequate.
Overall, I’d go back again to try more of the menu.
